Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a specialized team of engineers, you will improve the repeatability and reliability of operations across production, refurbishment, integration, and launch operations across Blue Origin. You will lead investigations to understand direct technical causes and systemic/root causes of reliability issues and downtime, implement durable fixes in design, process, and tooling, and verify the effectiveness of those changes. You will become deeply familiar with system design and get to be hands-on with hardware, operations, and data to determine what drives recurring issues and eliminate them.

Operations Reliability Engineers may be aligned to one or more focus areas:

  • Production (factory build and test)
  • Integration & Refurbishment
  • Launch & Ground Operations

Responsibilities:

  • Own the operational reliability of assigned processes, tooling, and ground systems within your focus area.
  • Analyze downtime, delays, scrubs/rollbacks, rework, and nonconformances to identify high-risk processes and recurring issues.
  • Lead or support root cause and corrective action investigations, from immediate containment through systemic fixes and verification.
  • Develop, refine, and standardize procedures, work instructions, checkouts, and maintenance plans to stabilize execution and reduce variability.
  • Partner with design, manufacturing/integration engineering, GSE, Quality, and Operations to design and implement improvements in process, tooling, and equipment.
  • Support commissioning and early-use stabilization of new tools, equipment, and ground systems.
  • Build simple tracking and visibility tools to monitor reliability performance and guide priorities.
  • Spend significant time on the floor, pad, or in the field observing operations, engaging with stakeholders, and closing the loop on changes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years in manufacturing, test, integration, launch/ground operations, or reliability/maintenance engineering.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting complex mechanical, fluids, electrical, or controls systems and driving changes to fix issues.
  • Expert in structured problem-solving and root cause methods and basic data analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and/or electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in launch, spaceflight, aerospace production, or other high-consequence, high-complexity operations.
  • Exposure to reliability, quality, or operational excellence tools.
  • Experience authoring or improving work instructions, checklists, and maintenance procedures.
  • Experience building lightweight data/metrics to support decision-making.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to support off-shift or weekend work during critical builds or investigations.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and at height as required.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
