Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is a senior management position responsible for the scheduling, production and quality of completion of jobs for his/her assigned division. This position facilitates the maximization of resources to achieve customer satisfaction, productivity, employee morale, and revenue goals.

essential Duties:
  • Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
  • Oversees daily operations and management of all Production resources within assigned division to maximize scheduling and utilization of resources.
  • Oversees Project Managers and the formulation of construction activities for all jobs.
  • Oversees and/or works with Superintendents to ensure all jobs are scheduled, reviewed and safely laid out prior to the crew arriving on the job-site.
  • Develops and maintains the subcontractor network.
  • Reviews sub-contractor requirements for all jobs to ensure that production costs are minimized and efficiencies are maintained.
  • Oversees the maintenance of quality controls on job sites.
  • Evaluates and revises project schedules and production goals as needed.
  • Develops and modifies work processes to ensure the highest standards of quality, productivity and profitability.
  • Audits equipment and job sites to ensure all safety requirements are being followed.
  • Maintains record of daily/weekly/monthly revenues to goal, takes corrective measures, and escalates as needed.
  • Trains, mentors, motivates, and develops employees.
  • Fosters favorable working relationships with all other company employees to maximize employee morale, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Keeps direct supervisor informed of all problems and takes prompt corrective measures as needed.
  • Collaborates with others to ensure DOT and CDL compliance within assigned division.
  • Serve as an ambassador of safety by promoting and enforcing a safety culture that complies with federal, state, local, contract and company regulations.
  • Promotes a culture that holds employees accountable while maintaining a fun work environment.
  • Any and all duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position manages Project Managers, Dispatcher and Estimators.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position works in an office setting, as well as outdoors. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as phones, computers, photocopiers, and fax machines.
  • While performing this job the employee is regularly required to talk and hear in person and over the telephone, and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • The employee must have mobility to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee must possess the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • The employee is frequently required to work on the project site and if so, may be required to operate vehicles, machinery and equipment within safety guidelines. The employee may be required to work outside frequently, for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures. The employee must be able to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in a variety of different situations.
  • While working the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, and dust/debris.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a full time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or GED is required. A four (4) year college degree in related field is preferred.
  • 8-10 years related experience is required; heavy construction and/or asphalt industry experience is required.
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be able to use various forms of project management software.
  • Must have strong mathematical skills and be able to perform complex computations for layout design and material requirements.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Must have a broad understanding of production management, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation and contract administration is required.
  • Must have previous management/supervisory experience.
  • Must be a critical thinker who proactively anticipates problems and is solution oriented in approach.
  • Must be fluent in English, i.e. must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must be willing to travel to any and all jobsites without exception (including staying away from home if necessary.)
