General Job Description

Operations Manager - IES Residential, Inc. Plumbing Division Startup

Build Something from the Ground Up with the Support of a National Leader

Our Charlotte operation is an established electrical division that is now adding plumbing. This position offers a unique ground-floor opportunity to help launch and grow a residential plumbing operation while leveraging the resources, support, and infrastructure of a national organization.

The Opportunity

IES Residential is adding plumbing to our existing Charlotte electrical division and is seeking a hands-on Operations Manager with Residential New Construction (RNC) experience to support the launch and growth of the business.

This role works directly alongside the Division Manager and is supported by IES's national teams, including centralized estimating, plumbing design, procurement, and administrative resources. You will not be standing up the operation alone.

We are looking for an experienced residential new construction plumbing professional who can serve as the trade subject matter expert in the Charlotte market-someone who understands production plumbing, can build and lead a team, establish operational standards, and drive quality and performance as the division grows.

What You'll Do

Division Startup Support
  • Support the Division Manager in adding plumbing to the existing Charlotte operation, including warehouse organization, dispatch logistics, and development of operational workflows
  • Coordinate with the IES national procurement team to establish supplier relationships, material pricing, and kitting and delivery models for the Charlotte market
  • Research North Carolina plumbing permitting requirements by municipality and collaborate with the central administrative team to establish compliant permitting workflows before neighborhood starts
  • Assist in building scalable systems and processes that support long-term division growth

Field Operations
  • Hire, onboard, train, and supervise plumbing crews performing residential new construction installations
  • Lead crews through underground, rough-in, and trim phases of construction
  • Establish production expectations, quality standards, and installation best practices from the first project onward
  • Schedule field crews to meet builder production requirements and manage daily dispatch and jobsite coordination
  • Conduct first-install quality reviews on new floor plans and validate Bills of Material (BOMs) against design documents
  • Manage warranty service and callback activity while identifying recurring issues by floor plan, product line, or installation process
  • Ensure field personnel maintain all required North Carolina installer and supervisor licensing requirements

Performance & Cost Management
  • Monitor labor and material performance metrics in coordination with the Division Manager
  • Identify operational variances and implement corrective actions at the crew and supplier level
  • Audit BOMs to reduce waste, improve accuracy, identify substitutions, and optimize material usage
  • Utilize company job management and field operations technology platforms for scheduling, tracking, and documentation
  • Provide regular operational reporting to division and national leadership teams
