Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Construction, the Operations Manager oversees operational activities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, including hiring project staff, managing training and development and performance management programs for project staff, lead, motivate and engage project staff to ensure timely and efficient completion of the construction projects. The Operations Manager is ultimately responsible for introducing best practices and improving operational processes and related programs.

Responsibilities
  • Development and approval of project execution plans for a variety of heavy civil project
  • Development and approval of project budgets, forecasting and associated cost reports
  • Development and negotiation of contracts with project clients, vendors and subcontractors
  • Development, approval and monitoring of project schedules
  • Management and completion of claims and any associated legal proceedings with respect to contracts disputes
  • Overall management of staff and resource planning related to project execution.
  • Formulate and implement operational strategy
  • Coordinate with other departments to effectively implement strategy
  • Ensure all operations are carried efficiently, timely and within budget
  • Analyze and improve operational systems and processes
  • Improve and implement various operations related programs, including training and development, performance management
  • Manage day to day operational activities
  • Develop and deliver operational recruitment strategy
  • Conducting interviews with prospective candidates for the operational positions
  • Ensure legal compliance of operational processes and programs
  • Lead, support, and mentor project staff
  • Work closely with management team
  • Participate in management meetings to contribute to strategic planning and provide strategic solutions to operational issues


Qualifications Required

Education and Experience
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Operations or Project Management or relevant area / combination with experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in management
  • Certification as a PMI, PE, PMP will be advantageous
  • Experience in schedule planning, budgeting, company operations
  • In-depth knowledge of the scope of projects within the industry
  • Knowledge of financial and business management
  • Strong experience in the Mid-Atlantic
