What You Will Do
The Sigma Facility, along with five other facilities, makes up the Sigma Complex. This complex, which encompasses over 200,000 square feet, has been used for a variety of nuclear materials missions.
Reporting to the Science and Technology Operations (STO) Phoenix (PHX) Group Leader, the Sigma Facility Operations Manager is responsible for managing the Sigma Facility operational activities in support of the programmatic mission. This position manages all aspects of facility operations, providing the operational support and oversight necessary to safely, compliantly, and cost effectively execute routine and project activities.

The responsibilities of the Sigma Operations Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage the day-to-day activities of Sigma building managers, operational specialists, and operators.
• Provide oversight of the Science and Technology Complex Operations within Sigma.
• Authorize, or defer, maintenance and construction activities based on facility status.
• Manage and coordinate the proper response to abnormal conditions and submit reports IAW institutional guidelines.
• Manage and coordinate the proper response to Facility Emergencies.
• Maintain assigned facility status.
• Lead/Support the Plan of the Week & Plan of the Day meetings.
• Assist with development of IWDs, RWPs and other technical documents to support programmatic and project work.
• Coordinate the integration of project work in the Science and Technology schedule.
• Assist with development and coordination of plant/system Outages to support Project Work.
• Coordinate facility and programmatic resources to support Project Work.
• Provide oversight on project activities to help ensure that projects are being executed safely, securely, and compliantly.
• Act a primary point of contact between the STO-FOD and Programmatic and Project Personnel.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Expertise: Thorough understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.

Collaboration: Demonstrated experience developing teams and individuals in a collaborative work environment. Management experience to include supervision and human resources administration of assigned employees and subordinate supervisors or staff members.

Operational Acumen: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the concepts and principles of Integrated Work Management, Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and Integrated Safeguards and Security Management (ISSM), or equivalent non-DOE programs, including experience reviewing, approving, and authorizing both facility and programmatic work. as demonstrated through the Integrated Work Document/work package reviews and approvals.

Communication & Project Management: Ability to manage complex projects with limited resources in an environment of conflicting priorities. Demonstrated excellent customer service and communication skills.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Moderate/High Hazard or Nuclear Facilities operations.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of the following aspects of operations management as applied to a Moderate Hazard Facility: systems engineering, work control, hazard identification and analysis, formality of operations, safety basis, configuration management, maintenance management, project management.
• Demonstrated Project Management experience for Programmatic and R&D Work or related experience with construction project management.
• Experience and understanding of DOE O 232.1 reporting to include running fact findings, reviewing root cause analysis, and participation in lessons learned reviews and meetings.
• Operating budget experience.
• Experience reviewing and understanding engineering drawings.
• Leadership experience.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
