Full Job Description
EthosEnergy is currently recruiting for an Operations and Maintenance Managerto provide management and leadership at Pittsfield Generating Station in Pittsfield MA. The facility is a 3x1 combined cycle power station with GE 6B frames. The O&M Manager will be responsible for providing supervision, direction and leadership to the operations and maintenance staff including the Lead OMT's, OMT's, OMT-Mechanical's and OMT - I&E's. Other responsibilities include the oversight of day-to-day operating and maintenance activities, environmental compliance to ensure that the facility is operated in a safe, reliable, and economic manner consistent with site O&M Agreement, contracts, permits, and rules and regulations written instructions form the Facility Owner.

Approved salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 based on skillset, experience and education. A 15% plant bonus is also offered depending on productivity. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of (8)-Eight years relevant experience, with a minimum of (4)-Four years in a supervisory or management position. Important to note that a Massachusetts Second Class Engineer License is strongly preferred. Candidates without the license must be able to obtain it within two (2) years of employment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment and ensure that personnel and contractors follow plant and company safety procedures and policies.
  • Assign a Safety Liaison and oversee the safety activities to ensure compliance with OSHA required training and activities.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Develop a training program for the operations and maintenance personnel
  • Encourage staff to cross train and add skillsets to create a more flexible and productive plant environment.
  • Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities to ensure appropriate skill sets are maintained and personnel are qualified for the activities with which they are being asked to perform.
  • Support both Owner and Operator programs and decisions to the best of your ability.
  • Bring decisions to the staff with a positive attitude and high level of confidence.
  • Seek to address any uncertainty from staff by encouraging positive thinking and a high level of productivity.
  • Resolve negative attitudes promptly and with positive reinforcement.
  • Provide regular updates to the Facility Manager on staff morale and work ethics.
  • Develop a training program for the operations and maintenance personnel and encourage the staff to cross train and add skills to create a more flexible and productive plant environment.
  • Delegate work orders to operations and maintenance staff to balance backlog, ensure proper distribution, and broaden team experience across plant functions.
  • Oversee environmental compliance activities including the preparation of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Interface with consultants, as needed, in the completion of environmental projects.
  • Support the Facility Manager in the completion of all reporting requirements including environmental, safety, budgeting, and plant performance.
  • Monitor and optimize plant performance. This should include periodic testing, evaluations, and recommendations to the owner for improvement projects with cost justifications.
  • Provide input and support in the development of the annual budget and annual operating plans.

  • Manage the O&M staff to promote efficient operations and utilization of overtime hours.
  • Communicate effectively with the site staff, Facility Manager, Facility Owner, vendors, and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrate effective management skills in meeting or exceeding facility goals and objectives and support the Facility Manager in ensuring that EEG is performing in accordance with the O&M agreement.
  • Lead the effort to identify problem areas in the plant where there are repeat problems, inefficiencies, or unsafe areas.
  • Prepare capital project suggestions with appropriate cost benefit analysis.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • A thorough demonstrated understanding of power plant operations, including a working knowledge of the operations & maintenance functions.
  • A working knowledge of chemistry as it relates to plant operations as well as environmental and water treatment programs and statutory regulations.
  • Understand budgets, bid proposals, contract evaluation, basic accounting principals, plant economics and power pool operations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel. Analyzes and interprets data to make sound professional judgments and recommendations.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate subordinates.

Experience

  • Minimum of eight year's relevant experience, with a minimum of four years in a supervisory or management position or a position in which there was oversight and delegation of tasks associated with completion of projects.

Education Requirements

  • A four-year degree or commensurate experience is required as well as a demonstrated track record of successful goal achievement.
  • Massachusetts Second Class Engineer License is strongly preferred. Candidates without the license must be able to obtain it within two (2) years of employment.
