AFW Transport Unit (IAWT3)
The Operations Analyst will be based in Washington and will join the Western and Central Africa Transport Unit (IAWT3) of the World Bank's Transport Global Practice. The unit supports 9 countries across the region through a growing portfolio exceeding US$3 billion in lending operations, technical assistance, and analytical work aimed at improving transport systems and connectivity. IAWT3's portfolio covers a wide range of transport interventions, including rural and urban roads, urban mobility, regional economic corridors, road safety, asset management, and institutional strengthening, with a strong focus on delivering sustainable and inclusive transport solutions in low-income and fragile environments.
To support the growing portfolio, the unit is seeking a highly motivated Operations Analyst to provide operational, analytical, and portfolio management support to the team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Practice Manager, the Operations Analyst will:
• Support TTLs in the preparation and supervision of operations, including drafting sections of key documents (Concept Notes, Project Appraisal Documents, Implementation Status and Results Reports, Aide-Mémoires, Management Briefs, etc.).
• Assist in the preparation of technical inputs, including TORs, presentations, and background materials.
• Contribute to analytical activities by supporting data collection, literature reviews, basic quantitative and qualitative analysis, and drafting of selected sections of reports and policy notes.
• Support the organization of knowledge-sharing events, workshops, and training sessions for clients and internal staff.
• Maintain and update project data in Bank operational systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with corporate requirements and deadlines.
• Monitor key portfolio indicators (disbursements, commitments, ratings, results indicators, procurement and FM actions, safeguards/ESF milestones) and prepare regular portfolio dashboards and summary notes for the team and management.
• Support preparation of inputs for corporate exercises (e.g., quarterly portfolio reviews, work program agreements, scorecards, trust fund reporting, and other corporate reporting).
• Support the management of trust-funded activities, including monitoring budgets, deliverables, and reporting requirements, in coordination with TTLs.
Selection Criteria
• A Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Familiarity with project cycle and World Bank operational processes and systems (OPS, SAP, Admin Portal, TF portals).
• Ability to conduct research and analysis on difficult but well-defined tasks, articulate issues, and recommend solutions.
• Ability to draft components of reports, working papers, and similar outputs.
• Ability to effectively provide professional support to senior staff.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills in multicultural environments.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines.
• High degree of motivation, initiative, and flexibility, with a strong client orientation and problem-solving mindset.
