This is a business-owned, enterprise role accountable for defining, governing, and scaling operating data standards across the Lumber business. As the single accountable owner, this role ensures operating metrics are consistently defined, applied at the source, and trusted across all mills to support strong operational decision-making, reliability excellence, and future advanced analytics and AI capabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Own and enforce standard operating metrics across five domains: Sawmill, Planermill, Kilns, Shipping/Scheduling, and Lumber Mill Capacity.
- Define metric definitions, business assumptions, and logic (including absolute vs. normalized metrics).
- Ensure standards are applied at the data source
- Serve as the primary conduit between mill operations and IT, BI, and AI teams.
- Govern metric changes and prevent local reinterpretation or proliferation.
- Coordinate documentation, training, and adoption with mill and regional teams.
- Partner with BI teams to support certified datasets and trusted reporting.
- Up to 50% travel
Qualifications- 8-12+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing environments, preferably multi-site operations.
- Strong understanding of mill operations, reliability, maintenance, and production systems.
- Deep expertise in operating metrics such as OEE, uptime, downtime classification, throughput, and capacity.
- Demonstrated experience owning and enforcing enterprise-wide metric standards and definitions.
- Proven ability to implement data governance and change control in a matrixed organization.
- Strong systems thinking with a focus on fixing issues at the data source.
- Ability to lead cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
- Experience documenting standards and driving adoption through training and operational routines.
- Business-facing fluency with data, analytics, and how data flows from source systems to reporting and advanced analytics.
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience working within lumber, forest products, or similarly asset-intensive manufacturing industries[DN1.1].
- Hands-on experience with ActivPlant or other MES platforms.
- Background in reliability excellence, asset management, or continuous improvement.
- Exposure to predictive maintenance, AI, or advanced analytics initiatives.
What We Offer:Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $119,000-$178,800 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 20% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
