Full Job Description
ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking an experienced OpenShift Software Engineer to join our Remote Monitoring and Logging System (RMLS) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. This is a full-time on-site position at the William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace (WJHTCAA). The chosen candidate will join the Hardware team to provide engineering support for installing, configuring, and maintaining RedHat OpenShift clusters and core DevOps components.

RMLS is the FAA's logging system for recording maintenance work performed on facilities in the National Airspace System (NAS). RMLS provides a rich database of unstructured text; reading every log file.

Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Be a US Citizen, have a US Green Card, or a Non-immigrant Work Authorization (VISA).
  • Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • The company is unable to sponsor candidates at this time.
  • RealID Driver's License/ID or current US Passport.


Relocation Requirement

Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Education & Experience Requirement

All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Mathematics, or a Bachelor's degree in another technical field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
  • Six (6) to Nine (9) years of related work experience in Enterprise Infrastructure, Kubernetes, and OpenShift administration.


Required Skills
  • Proficient/experience in:
    • Excellent knowledge in OpenShift (version 4.x).
    • Excellent experience with Linux administration and Kubernetes management.
    • Demonstrated experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
    • Demonstrated experience with Ansible, GitOps (ArgoCD), CI/CD tools (Jenkins), Prometheus/Grafana for monitoring, and networking basics.
    • High experience with monitoring system health, performance, and capacity, troubleshooting issues with applications and node components.
    • Understanding of infrastructure and cloud security best practices; DevSecOps, Identify and Access Management, encryption, and compliance standards.
    • Experience with supporting the implementation of infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate cloud resource provisioning and management.
    • Ability to multitask development efforts.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently, as well as a team.
    • Research and problem solve.
    • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication.

Preferred Skills
  • Prior FAA experience desired.
  • Knowledge/experience in:
    • Understanding and knowledge of Cloud Service Provider's capabilities and process; specific experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud and AWS Commercial.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of security technologies and their application (e.g., Splunk and Tripwire).

Essential Daily Job Duties
  • Provide 2nd Level Engineering support for RMLS:
    • Platform Management: Install, configure, and upgrade OpenShift clusters (version 4.x) and manage core components like MCO (Machine Config Operator), ingress, and operators.
    • Operations & Troubleshooting: Monitor system health, performance, and capacity, troubleshoot and resolve issues with applications and node components.
    • Security & Compliance: Implement role-based access control (RBAC), Security Context Constraints (SCCs), and audit logging to ensure security compliance.
    • Automation: Automate platform tasks using Ansible, Helm, or GitOps tools to streamline DevOps pipelines.
    • Application Support: Collaborate with developers to support containerized applications and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Problem-Solving: Strong skills in debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
    • Collaboration: Experience working with development and operations teams in an Agile environment.
    • Proactivity: Focus on automating routine tasks and improving platform reliability.
    • Attends and may lead meetings, design reviews, working groups and briefings. Reports issues and problems and recommends solutions. Performs other related duties in line with tasks assignments.
