Description
The Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin seeks to fill an open rank faculty position to serve as the Director of the Billie L. Turner Plant Resources Center (PRC). Tenured applicants are preferred, but assistant professors with several years in rank will also be considered.
The PRC has a world-class plant collection of 1.1 million specimens in three herbaria (https://biodiversity.utexas.edu/collections/plants) and is a part of the Biodiversity Center (https://biodiversity.utexas.edu) within the Department of Integrative Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate exemplary leadership of the PRC in biodiversity programming. The PRC has three fulltime staff and several large endowments that secure its future funding. Eligible candidates, depending on rank, will be nominated to be the holder or fellow of the Sidney F. and Doris Blake Centennial Professorship in Systematic Botany.
Qualifications
We prefer candidates with an outstanding record of research that demonstrates innovation in addressing fundamental questions in biodiversity and evolution of plants. Applicants should have a demonstrated successful career, including influential publications, extramural research funding, a commitment to excellent teaching, and experience in herbarium administration and/or collections-based research. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research, teaching and graduate student/postdoctoral training programs actively engage with our plant collections and leverage the opportunities offered by our associated field stations (https://biodiversity.utexas.edu/field-stations-page).
