About The Role

Position Reports To: Senior Engineer

Position Overview:

Coeur Rainy River currently has a need for an engineer in training (EIT) at its Rainy River Minesite. Coeur Rainy River is committed to developing its people through the implementation of an EIT rotational program which provides EIT's exposure to a variety of technical disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • EITs rotate through 4 team positions which provide technical services to the mine operations:
    • Short Term Planning
    • Drill and Blast
    • Dispatch
    • Dump Management
  • EIT rotations could be anywhere from 8-16 months but aim to be long enough that a good grasp of knowledge and experience in the role is obtained.
  • EITs may be asked to take on projects and/or assist other EITs or provide coverage during holidays.

Roles
Short Range Planning
  • Collaborate with mine operations to plan out drilling, mining, and dumping activities, ensuring targets are met safely and efficiently.
  • Use MineSight software for detailed scheduling of drilling, blasting, shovel placement, mining priorities, mill feed, and haulage access for dumps.
  • Integrate equipment maintenance plans with short-term mining plans and ensure these are included in weekly operational schedules
  • Present and discuss detailed plans and designs in pre-weekly and weekly meetings with mine operations, maintenance, and technical staff.
  • Plan and coordinate dumping activities, maintaining stockpile integrity in collaboration with Geotechnical engineers and preparing and executing lift designs.

Drill and Blast
  • Design and issue drill patterns, loading and timing for production blasts
  • Maintain drill and blast records and carry out optimization and QA/QC.
  • Carry out field inspections to assess blast performance and fragmentation
  • Work closely with Operations, Blasters and Mine Technicians to ensure field work is carried out correctly.
  • Issue blast notices, update blast billboard, and various day to day activities.

Dispatch
  • Manage and optimize the Wenco Fleet Management System and equipment configurations.
  • Oversee fleet data integrity, reporting, and consistency for accurate production tracking.
  • Analyze and report on production trends and operator performance to support operations.
  • Collaborate with dispatch and operations to ensure effective data recording and usage.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues and support shift readiness and reporting tasks.
  • Maintain and update reports, including daily, shift, and monthly summaries.

Dump Management
  • Design dump lifts and overburden placements that are safe, practical, and capacity-optimized.
  • Track dump and stockpile capacities and keep the weekly mine plan up to date.
  • Monitor slope progress using heat maps and assist with geotechnical inclinometer readings as needed.
  • Conduct weekly field inspections and site tours with the Dumps Supervisor to validate designs and solve on-the-ground issues.
  • Check daily dump placement in Wenco and work with the team to resolve any deviations from plan.
  • Participate in biweekly consultant meetings and maintain clear, action-oriented meeting notes.


Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $85,000.00 - $98,000.00.

Qualifications
  • 0-2 years' experience in Mine Engineering with exposure to surface mining operations
  • Successful completion of a Mine Engineering bachelor's degree program
  • Eligible for professional registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
  • Experience in using mining software such as MineSight is an asset
  • Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities
  • Possess valid Canadian driver's license
