Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent to lead the installation and coordination of Owner-Furnished, Contractor-Installed (OFCI) electrical equipment on a large-scale industrial construction project.

This role is responsible for overseeing the receipt, inspection, storage, preservation, installation, testing, energization readiness, and turnover of critical owner-furnished electrical systems and equipment.

The Electrical Superintendent will serve as the primary field leader coordinating among the client, equipment vendors, construction teams, subcontractors, field engineering, startup teams, and commissioning personnel to ensure electrical equipment is installed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer requirements and project specifications.

This position requires a strong understanding of electrical equipment installation, construction sequencing, logistics planning, quality control, testing, energization planning, and commissioning readiness. The successful candidate will drive schedule performance while ensuring safe execution and successful turnover of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment & Vendor Management
    • Lead field execution of OFCI electrical equipment installation activities.
    • Coordinate receipt, inspection, inventory, storage, preservation, and installation of owner-furnished electrical equipment.
    • Interface directly with equipment manufacturers and vendor representatives regarding installation requirements, startup support, testing requirements, warranty requirements, and field issue resolution.
    • Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, installation manuals, startup procedures, and turnover documentation to ensure compliance during construction.
    • Coordinate vendor site visits and ensure installation activities meet manufacturer requirements.

    Electrical Construction Leadership
    • Oversee installation and coordination of major electrical equipment including:
      • Medium- and low-voltage switchgear
      • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
      • Transformers
      • UPS systems
      • Generators
      • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
      • Electrical distribution equipment
      • Protective relaying systems
      • Power monitoring systems
      • Instrumentation and control equipment
    • Ensure electrical installations comply with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards.
    • Coordinate installation sequencing with mechanical, civil, structural, and commissioning teams.

    Planning & Logistics
    • Coordinate delivery schedules, laydown requirements, rigging plans, and installation sequencing for critical electrical equipment packages.
    • Work closely with field engineering, procurement, project controls, and commissioning teams to support project milestones.
    • Monitor equipment status and proactively identify potential impacts to construction, testing, or energization schedules.
    • Support development of work packages, look-ahead schedules, and turnover plans.

    Quality, Testing & Commissioning
    • Ensure installations meet project quality requirements and manufacturer tolerances.
    • Coordinate inspections, punch list activities, testing requirements, and turnover documentation.
    • Lead readiness reviews for pre-energization and startup milestones.
    • Support electrical testing and commissioning activities including:
      • Megger testing
      • Ground resistance testing
      • Relay testing
      • Functional testing
      • Energization planning
      • System turnover
    • Coordinate closely with commissioning teams to ensure successful system acceptance and handover.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industrial construction experience with at least 3 years in a Superintendent or equivalent leadership role.
  • Experience managing installation of major electrical equipment packages on industrial, power, manufacturing, water, data center, or EPC projects.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating owner-furnished equipment (OFCI) and working directly with equipment vendors and manufacturer representatives.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, equipment installation, testing, turnover, and commissioning processes.
  • Experience with medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret:
    • Electrical drawings
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Vendor installation requirements
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Equipment layouts
    • Technical specifications
  • Knowledge of electrical testing and energization processes.
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders including owners, suppliers, subcontractors, engineering teams, startup groups, and commissioning personnel.
  • Advanced understanding of construction safety, scheduling, cost control, procurement, and quality management.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and lead field personnel.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed at active construction project sites.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to freely access all areas of a construction site, including elevated work areas, uneven terrain, scaffolding, ladders, and confined spaces as required.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Extended work hours, overtime, night shifts, and weekend work may be required based on project needs.
  • Travel and relocation may be required.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to designated weight limits consistent with project requirements.
