Job Class: 2548, Occupational Therapist

Salary Range: $49.24 - $59.87/hour

Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt (what does this mean?)

Length of Appointment: Appointment not to exceed six (6) months. This position is excluded by the Charter from competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.

Essential Duties

The Occupational Therapist (OT) serves as a resource to the school community with regard to identifying, analyzing, understanding, and addressing fine motor, visual motor, motor coordination, visual perception, and sensory processing and integration differences as they impact learning.

• Utilizes a variety of standardized assessments, observations, and team input to evaluate student strengths and functional level to determine eligibility for services and to develop appropriate treatment goals
• Plans, provides and monitors occupational therapy treatment programs for students as outlined in Individual Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 Plan and assesses progress on goals
• Instructs children in self-care activities, sensory motor and daily living skills, including but not limited to visual, perceptual and fine motor skills
• Provides consultation with school personnel regarding the implementation of the program, including accommodations, use of equipment/tools, and strategies to improve generalization of skills across settings
• Provides training for school personnel
• Attends and participates in team conferences/IEP meetings designed to evaluate a child's educational needs
• Maintains service records, including session notes and goal progress, and provides progress reports as required
• Works in a school year assignment and a summer assignment (preK assessment and/or Extended School Year services)
• Other duties as assigned

The strongest candidates will have:

• Graduation from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy.
• Certificate of registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
• Must have completed all fieldwork requirements and possess a master's degree orbachelor's of science
• Sensory integration training desired, but not required

• 2+ years of experience as an occupational therapist, preferably in a school system or other pediatric practice setting
• Knowledge of a variety of assessment tools for different ages and areas of need.
• Understanding of IDEA regulations and the IEP process.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with families, students, and colleagues
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Proficient computer skills, including Google Platform (email, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides)

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a valid Occupational Therapy License issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT)
