Job Description
Position OverviewThe Occupational Safety & Health (OS&H) Manager ensures a safe workplace for all employees by serving as the senior manager over field support within the Occupational Safety (OS) organization. This position is responsible for the field implementation of the OS Program and provides high-level leadership and operational oversight to OS field staff, including Supervisors, Engineers, and Technicians. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Functional:- Directs and supports Occupational Safety (OS) supervisors in work planning, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development/review, and the field validation and implementation of all OS procedures.
- Ensures activities in industrial settings and/or project construction sites are properly evaluated for physical/environmental hazard exposure, and appropriate controls are safely implemented.
- Plans, schedules, and integrates OS program elements to ensure utilization of employees and compliance with all contractual, quality, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure staffing levels of managed personnel are maintained in a manner which allows the effective and safe execution of the assigned scope of work.
- Directs all activities associated with the implementation of policies, procedures, and systems supporting the broader OS Program elements.
- Responsible for both short-term and long-term planning of field support to guarantee that site safety needs are met in support of the Project mission.
- Develops organizational budgets, various plans, policies, or procedures as needed to support program administration.
- Responsible for personnel performance actions, performance appraisals, and ensuring that all direct reports have appropriate training to support field activities.
- Interfaces with groups inside and outside the OSH organization, senior management, auditors, and client representatives while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Participates in various site teams and committees designated to implement ISMS, exercises authority to stop unsafe acts, and ensures managed personnel comply with safety policies and practice safe work habits.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements: (Must meet DOE O 426.2 minimum requirements)
- Bachelor of Science Degree in safety, health or industrial hygiene, or technical school in a related field or equivalent
- 10+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- Experience in occupational safety, health
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) credential
