Job Description Summary

Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate nursing staff; and coordinate walk-in, clinical, and community outreach activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description
• Hire, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff.
• Manage nursing schedule to ensure coverage for all clinical and outreach activities.
• Train nurses and ensure they are up-to-date on new information relevant to Public Health Nursing practice.
• Assists with ongoing planning, development, and evaluation of programs, policies, and protocols involving nursing practice.
• Perform clinical duties in support of public health and advance practice nursing staff as needed, such as providing follow-up treatment and medication maintenance.
• Prepare reports and provide fiscal oversight of contracts and grants impacting nursing division.
• Function as liaison between the agency and schools of nursing, physicians, and other health care providers.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision is exercised over public Health Nurse.

Fiscal Responsibility

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
• Minimum of one year relevant experience.
• Must maintain CPR certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
• Understanding of budget and contract management.
• Thorough understanding of the principles of personnel management.
• Considerable knowledge of physical assessment, pathophysiology, health maintenance care, and acute/chronic health conditions.
• Ability to act in a management capacity to plan, direct, and evaluate staffing, implementation, and coordination of health department nursing services.
• Supervisory knowledge and specialized training dealing with difficult customers and/or situations.
• Ability to assign work, train, counsel, and supervise employees.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of professional public health nursing.
• Public speaking and presentation skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with the individuals representing a broad socioeconomic spectrum, the media, and a variety of other agencies.
• Ability to prepare reports and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Effective organizational skills.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job
• May be exposed to airborne particles/fumes, potentially hazardous bodily fluids, or potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents/chemicals.
• May be required to wear a respirator in certain situations.
• Exposed to moderate noise levels.

• Must have clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify/distinguish colors, and precise hand-eye coordination.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Hours/Days

Primarily Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Evenings and weekends as needed.

Starting Salary
$35.30-$43.43/hr, $73,424-$90,334 annual. Commensurate with training and experience.
