Full Job Description
Job Title: Nursing Manager

Status: Full-Time Temporary 6 months

FTE- 1.0 (75 hrs biweekly)

Department: Clinical

Location: Temple Mont Gardens

Hours/Week: Wednesday to Sunday-12:00 pm to 8:00 pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

This temporary position will work with the existing leadership team to implement process changes to support the accreditation process.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Responsible for fostering and establishing a collaborative and open environment with Alberta Health Services (AHS) as well as Transitions Services (TS).
  • Working collaboratively with the leadership team, to support the day-to-day management and operation of the Nursing and Clinical Department. This includes the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the clinical and administrative activities of the department.
  • Working collaboratively with the leadership team in the development of departmental policies and procedures; personnel supervision and support; resource management; and monitoring, evaluating, and coordinating these services with Education, Pharmacy, Recreation and Tenant Resource Coordinator as they relate to client care.
  • Working collaboratively with the leadership team implement to monitor the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment designed to prevent the transmission of disease and infection.
  • Working collaboratively with the leadership team to determine Nursing and Care staffing requirements as per the AHS SL Accountabilities and directly responsible for the recruitment, selection, orientation, education, performance management and administration of schedules for the departmental staff.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department initiatives and functions as per organizational goals and objectives.
  • Lead in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to client care.
  • Maintain a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the client and unit program level.
  • Maintain an active presence in mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality client care.
  • Initiate investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; works with WCB claims and return to work plans.
  • Support in the preparation for audits, inspections, investigations, and surveys including, but not limited to the Continuing Care Health Service and Accommodation Standards, collaborates with the Director of Supportive Living and Community Program in the response and action planning, and implements any follow-up QA required for any nursing related allegations.
  • Monitor the maintenance of accurate clinical records and reports required by legislation and in accordance with recognized nursing principles.
  • Coordinate and serve on the various committees responsible for client care.
  • Ensure client admitted for care can be safely cared for and maintains facility occupancy using Pathways system in collaboration with Alberta Health Services Case Managers and Transition Services Coordinators.
  • Support with the coordinated delivery of all scheduled and Point in Time education/in-services with facility Educator.
  • Work closely with the Site Medical Leader and Physicians to address specific medical initiatives and issues.
  • Support with the coordination of Nursing Quality Improvement Initiatives, projects and research as identified by clinical indicators.
  • Complete clinical indicators, analyzing and identifying gaps, complete quality initiative as required based on identified deficiencies.
  • Complete Annual & Mandatory education/in-services as well as all other required education/in-services as per organizational requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Completion of Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing .Active and eligible registration with the College and Association of Registration Nurse of Alberta (CARNA).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart & Stroke Foundation
• Recent experience in a Supportive Living environment with Mental Health focus
• Experience with Point Click Care (PCC).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This industry requires empathy for and an understanding of the needs of seniors and requires a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check including a Criminal Background Check.

Fast paced, challenging, working environment that provides/coordinates complex services to seniors and other marginalized populations. The ability to be flexible to meet the demands of this work environment is required for success. An understanding of Addictions and Mental Health and Trauma Informed care, in a Harm Reduction philosophy is an asset. This work can be stressful, and you may encounter challenging behaviors including physical or verbal aggression. This position does require shift work.
