Job Description:

The Role: Nurse Supervisor, Emergency Department
  • Provides nursing leadership for a nursing unit/department during assigned shift.


The Opportunity:

This is a full time, exempt position with a weekday schedule with variable hours (including some evening requirements), and will include call. The ED Supervisor will work in Waterville & Augusta at both the Thayer and Alfond Center for Health campuses.

The Work:
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to staff. Responds to staff requests for assistance with providing or managing direct patient care in complex or difficult matters.
  • Determines, coordinates, and monitors the flow of patients between units to maximize the use of the organization's resources and meet service level objectives.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes. Coordinates patient care services with staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Responds to complaints/conflicts and manages through established channels. Makes administrative decisions in the absence of the Department Manager/Director.


You Have:
  • Active Maine RN licensure or ability to obtain same in a timely fashion, required
  • BSN, preferred
  • Clinical expertise in ED nursing or Intensive Care nursing, with at least 5 years as staff nurse with supervisory/charge nurse experience, preferred
  • Excellent leadership, effective communication and autonomous critical thinking skills
  • Ablility to deal with complex management problems and communicate with staff & physicians in a collaborative fashion
  • Ability to build rapport by working along-side staff as needed

The salary range shown reflects the base salary for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and market considerations.
