Job Description
This position will be in the Nephrology & Hypertension division. The Nephrology & Hypertension NP/PA Hospitalists work on a consulting service to provide 24/7 coverage managing chronic kidney disease (CKD), end stage kidney disease (ESKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), hypertension, and acid base & electrolyte disturbances for patients throughout the hospital. The Nephrology & Hypertension NP/PA Hospitalists work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including nephrologists, fellows, nurses, and others.
• Primarily focused on Hospital Coverage (days, evenings, nights, weekends-rotational).
• A minimum of 75% of coverage expected as in-house hospital coverage.
• Work independently to the full scope of practice in compliance with state licensure.
• Perform and documents in the medical record detailed patient history and physical examinations.
• Presents patient report to on-call consultant to develop, collaborate and implement individualized plan of care.
• Follows assigned patient population throughout shifts.
• Delivers patient education regarding kidney diseases, electrolyte derangements, CKD care and renal replacement therapies, including dialysis modality options.
• Consults with surgical teams to promote optimal dialysis access placements for hospitalized patients.
• Prescribes appropriate pharmacological treatments and therapeutic procedures, including dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapies, as per accepted evidence-based guidelines and expected institutional protocols.
• Monitor effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
• Participate in the delivery of Tele-Health for Advanced Care at Home Patients
• Make appropriate referrals as needed.
-Assist with ongoing departmental process improvement and policy development.
-Provide outpatient nephrology care including clinic visits for CKD or post-hospital kidney care as well as outpatient hemodialysis rounding, based on practice needs.
• Actively attends and participates in educational lectures as part of the MD and APP fellowship program, grand rounds, quality improvement and faculty meetings.
• Precepts, mentors and instructs students, graduates, and NP/PA colleagues.
Qualifications
New graduates are welcome to apply, however 1+ years experience is preferred
Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as an FNP, ANP or ACNP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
• Active BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date required
• Inpatient/Hospitalist acute care advanced practice experience preferred.
• Prior training and education in nephrology, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplant preferred.
• Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 and Teams
• Strong teamwork ethic with emphasis on collective ownership.
