Position Description & Details:

The Nurse Practitioner provides professional, high quality, outpatient primary medical care and promotes health and wellness through education to students of North Dakota State University. Participates in Quality Improvement and Peer Review activities. This position will contribute to the health and well-being of students in accordance with the University, Division of Student Affairs and Institutional Equity (SAIE), AAAHC, and all regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

Evaluate and Treat Acute/Chronic Health Conditions and Promote Overall Wellness
  • Obtain health histories, perform physical exams and order diagnostic tests as appropriate to obtain accurate diagnosis of presenting complaints.
  • Determine, administer, and document appropriate treatment based upon best practice standards, credentialing agreement, and SHS policy.
  • Prescribe and administer pharmacotherapy according to professional and ethical standards of practice, and in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Educate patients on medical diagnosis and comprehensive treatment options including medication, lifestyle choices, therapeutic devices, and supportive self-care measures. Actively involve patient in treatment decisions.
  • Make appropriate referrals to internal and external specialists as needed.
  • Provide confidential, quality healthcare services in a professional manner, respecting one's individual rights, privacy, and autonomy to make health care decisions.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement, Peer Review, and Risk Management processes as directed.
  • Possess a working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding practices.
Maintain Professional Licensure and Competency Appropriate to College Health Population
  • Maintain minimum licensure and certifications as listed on Position Description.
  • Actively participate in credentialing and re-credentialing processes.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities for professional development to update and acquire new knowledge/skills applicable to your role at Student Health Service.
  • Contribute to the ongoing pursuit of clinical guidelines of care that are secured in evidence-based medicine and best practice standards.
  • Supervise and serve as a preceptor to students enrolled in applicable health-related academic programs in accordance with licensure and credentialing privileges.
Health Education and Outreach Activities
  • Participate in health-related events and presentations as assigned.
  • Actively promote student awareness of programs and services offered by Student Health Service and the university community .
Work Schedule:
  • Academic Year: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (40 hours/week)
  • Summer: Monday - Friday 7:30am-4:00pm (8-24 hours/week)
Hiring Range:

$46.56 per/hour - $62.08 per/hour + commensurate with experience
  • Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, and licensure and/or certification.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Family Medicine with a Master's in Nursing -or- Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
  • Experience in ambulatory care, college health, or public health setting
  • Current North Dakota APRN licensure with prescriptive privileges or eligible
  • Current ANCC/AANP certification as Family Nurse Practitioner or eligible
  • Current federal DEA certification or eligible
  • Current BLS certification or eligible
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Procedural proficiency such as:
    • Placement/removal of contraceptive devices such as IUDs and subcutaneous implants
    • Nail matrix destruction and nail plate removal
    • Simple laceration repairs
    • Mole removal, skin lesion destruction, and skin biopsies
  • Current Minnesota or other state APRN licensure with prescriptive privileges
