Job Description

A Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of the of a physician, is responsible for planning, evaluating and delivering the health care of patients on assigned service. Emphases preventative health measures and education of patients. She/he will perform other duties as assigned and in compliance with systems and job specific standards.

Job type: Full-Time

Annual salary: $154,876.00 - $167,377.60

Sign-on Bonus: $3500.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a Nurse Practitioner:
  • Takes histories, performs physical examinations, gives immunizations (as necessary) and does patient education and counseling.
  • Orders appropriate lab work, draws blood for lab work if needed, and performs some lab tests such as wet prep microscopic exams.
  • Prescribes treatment for minor illnesses, and consults with physician regarding medication, chronic illness and referrals when appropriate.
  • Maintains legible and appropriate documentation and reviews records periodically. Does follow-up of abnormal pap smears and reportable STD's.
  • Attends case conferences involving patients.
  • Attends continuing education programs to increase skills and knowledge.
  • Attends provider meetings and participates in quality improvement programs and team assignments.
  • Identifies and categorizes each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, such as those infants, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
  • Follows OSHA standards of infection control under CDC guidelines endorsed by department, organization, and overseen by Infection Control Officer.
  • Provides safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity, quality and patient satisfaction standards.

Minimum Education Requirement:
  • Master's Degree

Minimum Work Related Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience in primary care
  • 3 years of experience in the outpatient setting, preferably in a large medical practice with increasing levels of responsibility.

Preferred Work Experience:
  • 4 Years of experience in primary care

Minimum Licensure:
  • Valid license as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State and CPR/BLS

Required Skills & Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures that nurse practitioners are trained to do and are necessary for practicing in health care centers.
  • Competence in delivery of health care to patients (including preventative health education)
  • Ability to collaborate with other members of the Health Center in order to maintain high quality standards and achieve client satisfaction.
