Overview

Responsible for the day-to-day operations and professional nursing practice of assigned unit(s). Responsible for hiring and firing of nursing personnel, periodic employee evaluations, orientation of new employees, and performance improvement activities. Responsible for cost center(s) budgets. Supervises RN's, Patient Care Associates, Clerical Associates and other clinical support personnel. Coaches and mentors the Assistant Nurse Manager, if applicable, for succession planning.

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree - New hires effective August 1, 2013, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing.
For those responsible for the following departments, effective 07/01/2018, all current employees are required to have AWHONN FHM Intermediate or Advanced by 07/01/2019. New hires and transfers are required to have AWHONN FHM Intermediate or Advanced within 6 months of hire or transfer. 2 L&D/Womens Srvcs-North TA (650380), Labor and Delivery (653100), Prenatal Diagnostic Program (653200), and Womens Acute Care Center (653500).
Preferred Education:
Master's in Nursing or related field.
Necessary Skills:

-Effective July 1, 2018, existing employees have until December 31, 2018 to obtain the following life support certifications based on their assigned unit.
-Effective January 1, 2015, all new hires or transfers must have a professional certification within two years of hire or transfer. For certifications that require a specified number of cases or hours worked within the specialty, the certification must be applied for once the case/time requirement has been met, and the certification must be obtained within one year of the requirement having been met (e.g. oncology, chemotherapy, diabetes education).
Preferred Licensure/Certifications:
Professional Certification.
Required Experience:
1-2 years - Supervisory or Charge Nurse experience. -AND- 3-5 years - Clinical experience.
Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with demonstrated increasing responsibilities.
Supervision:
Supervisory responsibility - YES. Number of employees varies by unit.
