Overview
The Service Line Nurse Manager (SLNM) is a strategic leader who oversees clinical operations, nursing care, and administrative functions for their designated clinical specialty. This role bridges bedside care and leadership by managing personnel, actively manages and ensures budgets in the inpatient setting, and collaborated with administrative leaders for ambulatory budgets. In addition, the SLNM will ensure quality improvement initiatives are developed and implemented across the nursing service line. The SLNM ensures the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care while fostering a collaborative environment across multiple departments or units.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical & Operational Leadership
  • Oversee daily operations across all units and clinics within the designated service line.
  • Maintain clinical standards by ensuring care aligns with evidence-based practice and hospital policy.
  • Optimize workflow efficiency to reduce patient wait times, manage length of stay, and improve throughput.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and escalation point for complex patient care issues or service recovery.
  • Personnel Management & Staff Development
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard qualified nursing and support personnel to maintain safe staffing ratios.
  • Mentor and coach staff, conducting regular performance evaluations and designing professional growth plans.
  • Foster a positive work culture to improve retention, and minimize burnout.
  • Manage scheduling and staff allocation to balance patient acuity with available staff.
  • Financial & Resource Stewardship
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget and capital expenditure plans for the service line.
  • Monitor variance reports monthly, taking corrective action to control labor costs and supply expenses.
  • Evaluate resource utilization to ensure the cost-effective delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
  • Quality Improvement & Regulatory Compliance
  • Lead performance improvement (PI) initiatives targeting patient safety, fall reduction, and infection control.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including patient satisfaction scores (HCAHPS) and clinical outcomes.
  • Ensure continuous readiness for accreditation and regulatory surveys (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, State DOH).
  • Investigate clinical incidents and implement root-cause analyses to prevent future care variances.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Partner with administrative team to align clinical goals and standardize care protocols.
  • Collaborate with hospital executives to execute strategic growth plans for the service line.
  • Represent the service line on hospital-wide committees, task forces, and community outreach events.

    - Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility - Basic Life Support (BLS) - National leadership certification, such as Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) within 1 year
