Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), the Nurse Manager shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the department. Functions will be performed in accordance with the nurse practitioner in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.

  • Performs hourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
  • Functions effectively as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Accepts responsibility for assurance that quality patient care is provided consistently according to hospital and departmental standards and policies/procedures.
  • Accepts accountability and responsibility for achievement of operational and capital budget goals.
  • Shares 24-hour accountability and responsibility with the ACNO for the effective and efficient operation of the Unit.
  • Promotes consistent, positive interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.
  • Demonstrates caring and empathy in all interactions and advocates for patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications.
  • Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
  • Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
  • Use job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees.
  • Attends and actively participates in unit meetings.
  • Seeks opportunities to impact the growth of the organization by promoting excellence in patient experience and providing high quality care to the patients served.
  • Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
  • .Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and/or supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.


What qualifications you will need:

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing with Bachelors of Science in Nursing required
  • Masters of Science in Nursing or other related field preferred.
  • 3 years' experience in Medical Surgical Unit required.


Licensure, Certifications, Training:

  • Current RN licensure by the State of Texas or from a Compact State if you declare the Compact State your Primary State of Residence required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
  • National certification in area of expertise preferred.

Medical City Fort Worth serves as a tertiary referral center for Tarrant County and many counties within a 90 mile radius. We offer comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services. Our specialties include cardiac care, neurosciences and oncology. We have surgical services, orthopedics, kidney transplants and emergency care. We offer three ER locations, including two off campus ER located in Burleson and White Settlement. Medical City Fort Worth is a designated comprehensive stroke center. We are a Joint Commission chest pain center. We are a part of the Medical City network of hospitals. Patients are ensured access to medical experts and advanced healthcare innovations across the network.
