Full Job Description
The Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer supports nuclear safety activities for the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF), including design, construction, and operational readiness. This role is responsible for developing, reviewing, and implementing criticality safety evaluations and technical basis documents, ensuring compliance with nuclear criticality safety (NCS) requirements. The position involves performing facility walkdowns, supporting safety reviews and boards, resolving safety discrepancies, and contributing to the overall NCS program. The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support safe operations, maintain regulatory compliance, and uphold a strong safety culture within DOE and/or commercial nuclear environments.

Responsibilities
  • Support nuclear engineering facets related to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) design and construction of the facility.
  • Develop, revise, and peer-review Criticality Safety Evaluations (CSEs), Technical Deviations (TDs), and other NCS technical basis documents.
  • Perform facility walkdowns, review implementing documents, and participate in Operational Safety Boards.
  • Resolve non-compliance or discrepancies in safety requirements.
  • Develop calculations related to nuclear facilities.
  • Ensure critical design needs are met.
  • Develop, review, and implement Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSEs) and Determinations (NCSDs).
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the NCS program, including operability evaluations and problem report dispositions.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture, implement zero-accident philosophies, and ensure safe work practices in operational areas.
  • Review operational areas to assess NCS compliance.
  • Perform NCS evaluations.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; may look at other candidates with technical degree and additional relevant experience
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • United States (U.S.) Citizen
  • Must understand nuclear criticality safety procedures
  • Must be able to be qualified to ANS-8.26
  • Must have excellent coordination and communication skills to work with various teams and stakeholders
  • Must have experience with DOE and/or commercial nuclear projects
