Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer
Location: Knoxville, TN (Client Sites as Required)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Clearance: Active DOE Q required

Position Summary
Management Solutions is seeking an experienced Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Engineer to join our growing Nuclear Engineering practice. This client-facing consulting position supports Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and other federal nuclear programs through the development of high-quality nuclear criticality safety analyses, engineering evaluations, and technical consulting services. This position offers opportunities to support multiple DOE facilities, collaborate with nationally recognized subject matter experts, and contribute to technically challenging projects across the nuclear enterprise.Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSEs) including the underlying criticality safety analyses, calculations and technical documentation supporting operations.
  • Evaluate new and existing operations, facility modifications, equipment designs, and process changes.
  • Apply DOE Orders, ANSI/ANS-8 standards, client procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and review nuclear criticality safety controls and support implementation of engineered and administrative controls.
  • Perform field walkdowns, assessments, operational support, and technical reviews.
  • Perform or review analysis using SCALE/KENO or MCNP.
  • Support hazards analyses, documented safety analyses, and integrated nuclear safety activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and participate in peer reviews.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-Accredited program in Nuclear Engineering, Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant nuclear criticality safety experience.
  • Experience with SCALE/KENO or MCNP.
  • Knowledge of DOE nuclear safety requirements and ANSI/ANS-8 standards.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Prior qualification as an NCS Engineer at a DOE facility.
  • Active DOE Q security clearance.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting Y-12 or ORNL.
  • Prior qualification as an NCS Peer Reviewer at a DOE NNSA site.
  • 8 years of relevant nuclear criticality safety experience.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering.
Work Authorization
U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contracting and potential security requirements.
