Are you a strategic leader with deep roots in the power sector and a passion for driving energy transformation? HDR is seeking a Power Sector Business Development Leader for the Northwest Region to spearhead client engagement, business development, and strategic growth across a dynamic and evolving energy landscape.

What You'll Do:

As the Business Development Leader, you will:

  • Lead Strategic Growth: Drive HDR's market share and revenue growth across the Northwest region (Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and Montana).
  • Build Client Relationships: Serve as a trusted advisor to key utilities and power developers. Understand their goals and align HDR's capabilities to meet their needs. Advance strategic client development through planning and strategies that help HDR maintain a deep understanding of the client organization, drivers, and contracts.
  • Drive Business Development: Lead major pursuits and campaigns, develop winning strategies, and guide proposal efforts that reflect deep client insight.
  • Shape Market Strategy: Collaborate with market and operations leadership to define and execute regional strategic plans.
  • Mentor and Train: Support the maturation of business development skills across teams, fostering a culture of client focus and strategic thinking. Maintain knowledge of market trends and client needs.
  • Align Resources: Ensure the right talent and expertise are matched to client needs and growth opportunities in collaboration with operational partners. Help HDR attract great people.


What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, sciences, business, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in the power market, with a strong track record in client development and strategic leadership.
  • Proven success in leading major business development efforts and building long-term client relationships.
  • Deep understanding of the Northwest region energy market.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel and engage with clients and teams across the region.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working within the Northwest U.S. power sector.
  • Familiarity with the way professional and engineering services are solicited and contracted across the power market (transmission, distribution, generation, renewables, environmental, etc.).

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 15 years relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated "self-starter" with a history of completing projects with limited oversight
  • Deep knowledge of the A/E/C industry's standard approach to procurement of professional services
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network of clients and industry partners
  • Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability and desire to travel and engage with others in-person
  • Demonstrated experience in growing programs in new or highly competitive markets
  • Demonstrated experience in winning high-value contracts in the A/E/C industry
  • Demonstrated experience in writing compelling content based on information from technical staff
