Position Summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery is recruiting for a North America Regional Medical Director to provide strategic medical leadership across the Surgery (formerly Ethicon) franchise throughout the United States and Canada. This position is based in Raritan, NJ.

This highly visible leadership role is responsible for advancing the medical affairs strategy across a diverse portfolio of innovative surgical technologies. The individual will serve as the regional medical leader, providing scientific and clinical expertise, driving medical governance, supporting product safety activities, overseeing clinical evidence generation, and fostering strong relationships with key healthcare stakeholders.

The North America Regional Medical Director will lead a team of Medical Affairs professionals, including regional Medical Affairs leaders and US-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and while partnering cross-functionally with Commercial, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Health Care Compliance, Government Affairs, and Global Medical Affairs teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the North America Medical Affairs strategy aligned with franchise and global business objectives.
  • Provide vision, leadership, and management for the regional Medical Affairs organization.
  • Lead and develop a team of Medical Science Liaisons and Medical Affairs professionals across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Serve as a primary medical expert for Ethicon product portfolios.
  • Provide scientific and clinical leadership supporting product lifecycle management, innovation programs, and commercialization efforts.
  • Oversee regional medical governance activities and ensure adherence to Johnson & Johnson policies and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Partner closely with clinical, regulatory, quality, and safety organizations to ensure the safe and effective use of products.
  • Support the development and execution of clinical research programs, including both regional studies and strategic utilization of global evidence-generation initiatives.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and professional societies.
  • Deliver scientific insights to support business strategy and executive decision-making.
  • Provide medical review and validation of scientific communications and educational materials.
  • Manage Medical Affairs operating budgets and effectively prioritize resource allocation to deliver business and patient impact.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and industry organizations to advance scientific understanding and improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Required
  • MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent medical degree is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, Diagnostics, or related healthcare industries is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical experiences involving direct patient care is required.
  • Proven track record of success in creating strategic vision, acting as a change agent in leading organizational change with successful operational and tactical execution is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research, evidence generation, healthcare regulations, and medical governance s required.
  • Experience engaging with healthcare professionals, investigators, and key opinion leaders is required.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to integrate scientific and commercial perspectives is required.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills are essential.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally ~ 30% is required.

Preferred
  • Experience within Medical Device, Surgical Technologies, or related MedTech sectors is highly preferred.
  • Previous people leadership experience (Inclusive of direct or indirect reports) within Medical Affairs is highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting North America or global healthcare markets is preferred.
  • MBA or other advanced business qualification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership is desired.


The anticipated base pay range for this position is $199,000 - $343,275.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
  • Vacation -120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
  • Caregiver Leave - 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
  • Volunteer Leave - 32 hours per calendar year
  • Military Spouse Time-Off - 80 hours per calendar year
