Nondestructive Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Technician III, you'll serve as a senior technical expert performing complex UT methods-ensuring structural integrity, fleet readiness, and compliance with NAVSEA standards.
In this role, you will lead high-complexity ultrasonic evaluations including UT thickness, shear wave, TOFD, and PAUT. You'll develop scan plans, write and validate procedures, and apply industry-leading NDT techniques that directly support mission-critical Navy programs. Your expertise will strengthen lifecycle sustainment, drive technology improvements, and advance innovative NDE capabilities across naval platforms.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform and oversee advanced ultrasonic testing (UT) on Navy systems, weldments, and critical components.
- Develop, validate, and continuously improve NDT/UT procedures, scan plans, and inspection techniques.
- Lead root-cause and defect analysis leveraging UT data, digital tools, and high-precision evaluation methods.
- Support technology insertion, automation, and emerging ultrasonic techniques such as phased array (PAUT) and TOFD.
- Train, mentor, and guide Level I/II technicians; contribute to NDT program readiness and certification pathways.
- Document inspection results to meet NAVSEA, ASNT, NAS-410, and customer quality requirements.
- Collaborate across engineering, materials, and fleet support teams to enhance reliability and mission performance.
Security Clearance Requirements- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance
Required Qualifications- Minimum 10 years of hands-on nondestructive testing experience with background in ultrasonic inspection
Preferred Qualifications- NDT/UT Level III certifications (ASNT, NAS-410, NAVSEA)
- Demonstrated expertise in PAUT, TOFD, shear wave, and advanced UT techniques
- Experience developing UT procedures, scan plans, and training materials for Level I/II technicians
- Familiarity with naval or defense systems, materials, weldments, and complex component inspection.
Physical Expectations- Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
- Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment.
- Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
- Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
