Essential Job Accountabilities:
  • Perform on-site equipment maintenance evaluations with maintenance teams to identify maintenance practices needing improvement.
  • Provide technical on-the-job training for maintenance personnel to improve skills, maintenance, and repair best practices.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Central Services, and Engineering personnel for scheduled maintenance and equipment repairs, as well as capital projects. Provides leadership for Safety, Health, and Environmental issues. Develop and improve equipment support and service to operations.
  • Manage and analyze the maintenance department's budgeting and monthly costs. Contingency planning to include maintaining critical spares where plausible.

What You'll Do:

Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and comply with all Vulcan policies and procedures.

Organize and Plan Maintenance. Plan and schedule the daily maintenance functions in coordination with plant operations-maintenance scheduling to ensure optimal performance and utilization of plant, equipment, and personnel.

Manage Employee Relations. To support the business's operational function, provide strong leadership, training, team building, and supervision to all maintenance employees. Work cross-functionally with HR to recruit new employees, provide merit increases, perform disciplinary actions, and evaluate the performance of employees to develop talent.

Monitor Processes and Materials. Analyze production in coordination with operations and quality control to ensure our customers receive a quality product. Monitor operational reports to ensure best practices in processing to ensure effective and efficient maintenance functions. Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program to limit work stoppages, downtime, or other disruptions.

Maintain Compliance. Build a strong safety culture to ensure the maintenance team complies with Vulcan's safety, operations, and environmental policies and procedures. Manage the health and safety of employees to improve Vulcan's health & safety performance continuously.

Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs. Manage the organization of employees' work in the daily inspection and maintenance of the plant to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.

Skills You'll Need:

Experience. Previous experience managing and supervising maintenance and production employees at an aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plant operation is preferred. Technical skills in all areas of maintenance are required.

Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.

Operational Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mobile and plant equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and project management skills.

Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate.

Financial Knowledge. Knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets, meeting or exceeding performance goals.

Working Conditions. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.

What You'll Like About Us:

Salary Range. The salary range for this role is $110,648 to $131,610 annually, inclusive of the regional supplement and shift differential. This range does not include our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider several factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.

Rotating Shift Schedule. Two supervisors will work a four-day on, four-day off schedule to provide adequate support to our maintenance team at Havre de Grace.

Shift Differential. At Vulcan Materials Company, Northeast Division, Night Shift employees are paid a Shift Differential of an additional 15% on their base pay for working during the designated time period. We believe the additional compensation helps to offset the inconvenience of working less desirable hours.
