Full Job Description
SUMMARY:

The IT Network Support Engineer - II, is a dual-hat roles responsible for Vessel/Jobsite network engineering (approximately 50%) and Tier 1/ Tier 2 end-user helpdesk support (approximately 50%) for vessels and office personnel.

This position servers as the primary contact for vessel networking design, management, security and troubleshooting, while also acting as hands-on support resource responding directly to user issues, service requests, and incidents. The role requires technically strong, service-oriented engineer who is comfortable switching between network infrastructure responsibilities and direct user support.

The position focuses on the largest vessels with complex networks but will also design and support networks for smaller vessels, ensuring continuous production uptime, network hardening, security and end-user productivity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Network Engineering & Vessel Operations (≈50%)
  • Design, implement, and maintain vessel network architecture (physical and logical) in collaboration with OT teams.
  • Ensure reliable and redundant vessel connectivity by coordinating with uplink providers.
  • Manage network lifecycle, including hardware selection, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Deploy firmware and software updates to vessel infrastructure (excluding PLC/survey systems).
  • Implement and enforce network security controls, access management, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Monitor network performance, validate alerting systems, and perform regular security reviews.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, network diagrams, and asset inventories.
  • Troubleshoot network issues, analyze alerts/logs, and determine root causes in coordination with OT teams.
  • Serve as primary contact for network changes and provide rapid response, including on-call support and equipment replacement.

Tier 1 & Tier 2 Helpdesk Support (≈50%)
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for vessel and shoreside users, including connectivity, access, and general IT issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents through the IT ticketing system, ensuring timely documentation and closure.
  • Triage, prioritize, and escalate issues as needed while maintaining ownership through resolution.
  • Support users operating in low or intermittent connectivity environments.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical users and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Contribute to knowledge base documentation and identify opportunities to reduce recurring issues.
  • Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Computer related certifications, preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • AA Degree or a minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Cisco CCNA Certification (Routing & Switching)
  • Fortinet NSE 4 Certification preferred; must obtain within 12 months.
  • Knowledge of LAN and WLAN technologies preferred.
  • Basic Knowledge of WAN technologies including T1s, MLPPP and VPNs preferred.
  • Knowledge of communication technologies including satellite, cellular and wireless communication preferred.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP including IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, etc preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet switching including VLANs, PoE and Spanning-Tree preferred.
  • Knowledge of IP routing including preferred.
  • Knowledge of IP telephony and ShoreTel in particular preferred.
  • Knowledge of network storage.
  • Knowledge of computer and network troubleshooting methodologies preferred.
  • Knowledge the OSI model and its application to real-life situations preferred.
  • Knowledge of NIST 800-171, DFARS 252.204-7012, IMO MSC Resolution 428(98) Maritime Cyber risk management, CCPA, HIPAA preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Knowledge of network fundamentals, Active Directory, Automated Monitoring, Malwarebytes, CrowdStrike, Wireless Access Points, and proficient in MS. Office products.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position is primarily an office position, performs work at a desk. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) in order to conduct job site visits (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc.), and able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
