Responsibilities

An Average Day:As the Network Specialist III you will focus on the operational support, maintenance, and optimization of network infrastructure within data centers. You will be involved in monitoring network performance, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring the stability and security of CISCO-based networks. You will work closely with technical teams to maintain network compliance with federal security standards, handle escalations, and provide expert guidance on resolving critical incidents. In this role you will execute efficient day-to-day management of network systems, supporting both domestic and international network operations. Additionally, in this role you will:

  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and uptime, including troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks such as network updates, patches, and firmware upgrades within CISCO environments.
  • Lead the troubleshooting of routing, switching, and connectivity issues across the network, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Oversee the implementation of security measures such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems to maintain network security.
  • Respond to and resolve escalated network issues, ensuring efficient incident management and reporting.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure network operations meet federal security standards and requirements.
  • Provide expert technical support to junior engineers, assisting with routine network tasks and escalated problems.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, incident responses, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor network traffic and performance using tools like SolarWinds, Cisco Prime, or Wireshark, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support the integration of new network equipment and technologies into the existing infrastructure as part of ongoing upgrades or expansions.
  • Travel may be required to provide operational support for domestic and international network operations.
Qualifications
  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C), we will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
  • 7+ years of experience in network operations and maintenance, with expertise in CISCO environments.
  • Must havean active Secretclearancewith the ability to obtain aTop Secret with SCI eligibility or have an active Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
  • Will be subject to a federal background investigation.
  • Must hold a current 8570/8140 IAT Level II Certification (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP)
  • Strong hands-on experience with troubleshooting and maintaining OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP routing protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of VLANs, spanning tree protocol (STP), and network segmentation.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, or Cisco Prime for real-time analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with network security protocols, including IPSec VPNs, access control lists (ACLs), and 802.1X authentication.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cisco IOS and NX-OS operating systems for system maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with implementing and maintaining Quality of Service (QoS) to ensure network performance.
  • Ability to support routine integration and management of firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) within operational networks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong focus on network reliability and incident resolution.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers in network operations and troubleshooting.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally, international travel will require a current US Passport.
Pay Transparency StatementAMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $110,800.00/Yr. - USD $185,100.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
