Full Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to join a large-scale DOD enterprise network program in Pearl Harbor, HI with a 100% on-site presence. Alternate locations include Whidbey Island, WA or Norfolk, VA. The Systems Engineer Mid will serve as a technical resource & Tier 3 escalation point supporting one of the world's largest intranet environments. This role will focus on complex network troubleshooting, engineering, configuration management, lab validation, network security, and the development of future enterprise network solutions across a geographically dispersed environment.

Responsibilities of the Network Engineer include:
  • Lead efforts to identify, troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex network issues within a large-scale enterprise environment
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including Cisco switches, routers, VLANs, wireless access points, firewalls, and network sensors
  • Provide Tier III escalation support and serve as an SME/backstop for complex troubleshooting across multiple network disciplines and engineering teams
  • Troubleshoot and engineer technologies including LAN/WAN/WLAN, SD-WAN, MPLS, VPNs, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, switching protocols, and multicast
  • Apply defense-in-depth principles to secure enterprise network infrastructure and ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and cybersecurity policies
  • Develop and maintain Engineering Implementation Plans (EIPs) and manage change requests for network deployments, upgrades, maintenance, and other infrastructure changes
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to support problem management and recurring incident resolution
  • Maintain version-controlled configuration baselines for routers, switches, firewalls, and network sensors, including configurations, firmware versions, security policies, and network data
  • Conduct lab testing and pre-production validation for firmware upgrades, configuration changes, security patches, device interoperability, and network deployments
  • Document testing results, risks, remediation requirements, deployment recommendations, and rollback procedures prior to production implementation
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, architecture, and project teams to improve network availability, performance, reliability, and security
  • Track engineering and operational activities within an Agile/SAFe framework using JIRA, including stand-ups, retrospectives, PI activities, and other Agile ceremonies
  • Participate in engineering and architecture meetings and deliver technical demonstrations and updates supporting Program Increment objectives
  • Support scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, including participation in an on-call rotation and off-hours maintenance windows

Qualifications of the Network Engineer include:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8-12 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 6-10 years of relevant experience
  • Active Secret clearance
  • IAT Level III certification
  • Network certification such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE
  • Extensive hands-on experience with BAN/LAN/WAN/WLAN and network boundary engineering
  • Strong Tier III troubleshooting and engineering experience within large-scale, geographically dispersed enterprise networks
  • Experience supporting networks comparable to 16,000+ devices across 450+ locations
  • Advanced knowledge of routing, switching, SD-WAN, WLAN, MPLS, VPNs, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, switching protocols, and multicast
  • Strong understanding of network security and defense-in-depth principles
  • Experience with SAFe Agile methodologies and JIRA
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineers, leadership, customers, and stakeholders


Compensation for the Network Engineer includes:
  • Salary: $115,000-$120,000 depending on experience
