Job DescriptionThe mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to protect, preserve, and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly the most vulnerable. RoleWork independently to support LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, VPN VOIP, routers, switches, cameras and telephony systems. Provision, configure and implement new networking technologies throughout the PHC campus. Maintain, update and support the physical network infrastructure. Position requires on-call availability.
Duties- Documentation of physical network infrastructure and maintenance of related hardware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network related issues concerning connectivity.
- Move, add and deploy network equipment as needed or through proposed projects.
- Work closely with systems group to define networking strategies to better enhance the delivery of services.
- Assist User Support Services in the escalation of calls forwarded to the Network operations group for resolution.
- Project Manage network expansion throughout the BPHC
- Interface with ISPs for any Internet Connectivity issues.
- Deploy Manage systems management tools in the networking space.
- Design network strategy to support PHC IT initiatives.
- Project Lead large for network expansion and re-architecture projects.
- Other duties as required
- Works in confidential capacity with CIO and Technical Services Director.
Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- BS in Computer Science preferred. Five (5) years of professional experience as a Cisco network engineer may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- Experience with Cisco IOS, switches and routers, including VOIP configuration and troubleshooting experience is required.
- Experience with architecture, design and implementation of networks a plus.
- Experience with design and implementation of Load Balancing, Firewall and digital security network technologies a plus.
- Wireless network provisioning and maintenance (preferably Cisco) a plus.
- Proven ability to interact with technical staff of all levels and work in a team oriented, customer focused environment required.
- Customer service experience and a professional demeanor are required.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team required.
- Must possess clear, precise written and oral communications skills.
