Network Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer to implement and maintain our enterprise network infrastructure across multiple sites. This individual will be responsible for the configuration and ongoing management of all network devices - including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points - and will be a key contributor to network segmentation strategy, configuration change management, and VoIP telephony integration. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a compliance-driven defense contracting environment where network integrity directly supports mission-critical operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Configure, manage, and maintain all network infrastructure including firewalls, managed switches, routers, and wireless access points across on-premises and remote sites
- Design and implement network segmentation strategies including VLANs, ACLs, and zone-based firewall policies to support security compliance and CUI data handling requirements
- Manage and process configuration change requests following formal change management procedures, ensuring changes are tested, documented, and approved prior to implementation
- In conjunction with our Manage Services provider, Deploy, administer, and troubleshoot VoIP phone systems, including handset provisioning, dial plan management, call routing, and QoS tuning
- Monitor network performance and availability using network management tools; proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, outages, and degraded services
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation including topology diagrams, IP address management (IPAM), device inventories, and configuration baselines
- Support site-to-site VPN configuration, SD-WAN deployments, and remote access infrastructure
- Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to ensure firewall rulesets, wireless configurations, and network architecture align with NIST 800-171 and CMMC requirements
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours network incidents and maintenance windows
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, Engineering, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or network administration
- Demonstrated proficiency configuring and managing enterprise firewalls (policy creation, NAT, VPN, IPS/IDS)
- Experience with managed switches - VLANs, STP, port security, trunking, and inter-VLAN routing
- Hands-on experience with enterprise wireless systems (access point deployment, SSID segmentation, RF management)
- Working knowledge of VoIP technologies - SIP trunking, PBX/UC platforms, QoS configuration, and endpoint provisioning
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, subnetting, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP fundamentals)
- Experience with network segmentation design supporting security or compliance requirements
- Strong documentation skills - network diagrams (Visio or draw.io), runbooks, and change records
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the Fortinet product stack - FortiGate firewalls, FortiSwitches, FortiAPs, and FortiManager
- Familiarity with SD-WAN configuration and management
- Exposure to CMMC, NIST 800-171, or other DoD compliance frameworks
- Experience in a defense contracting or government environment
- Scripting or automation experience (Ansible, Python, or PowerShell) for network configuration management
- Active Secret clearance or willingness to obtain
- Certifications: Network+, CCNA, NSE 4/5 (Fortinet), or equivalent
