Job DescriptionTHE WORKAs a Network Communications Engineer, you'll design, integrate, secure, and optimize the communications infrastructure that enables mission-critical air and missile defense operations.
Working closely with systems, software, cybersecurity, hardware, and integration engineers, you'll develop resilient network architectures supporting multiple security domains while ensuring exceptional performance, reliability, and security. From system design through integration, testing, and deployment, you'll play a key role in delivering operational capability to the customer.
PLEASE NOTE- This position requires a government security clearance at the Secret level; you must be a U.S. Citizen for consideration.
- This position may require travel to customer sites throughout the United Arab Emirates.
- This position may occasionally support integration and test events during overnight or weekend hours.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Design and develop secure, resilient network architectures by decomposing system requirements into functional, logical, and physical network designs supporting mission-critical air and missile defense capabilities.
- Develop and implement network infrastructure solutions, including LAN/WAN architecture, firewall policies, IP addressing, Quality of Service (QoS), encryption, authentication, network continuity, and monitoring strategies.
- Install, configure, and integrate routers, switches, firewalls, and supporting infrastructure with mission systems, server environments, data links, and WAN networks while ensuring compliance with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Optimize network performance through capacity planning, latency analysis, bandwidth optimization, and traffic engineering using technologies such as MPLS, segment routing, policing, and traffic shaping.
- Troubleshoot complex network and cybersecurity issues by performing root cause analysis and utilizing tools such as Wireshark, NetFlow, telemetry platforms, and commercial network monitoring solutions.
- Implement Zero Trust networking principles and support cybersecurity compliance through NIST 800-53 controls, firewall rule management, zone segmentation, centralized security management, and network automation using Ansible, Python, and scripting tools.
- Create technical documentation, network diagrams, and operational procedures while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers to support successful system delivery.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Network Communications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Cyber Security, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience, including at least 3 years supporting complex, high-availability enterprise networks.
- Professional networking certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIP/JNCIE (preferred), Arista EOS, CompTIA Network+, Security+, or equivalent.
- Experience with TCP/IP networking, IPv4, VLANs, RSTP, LAG, VTEP, BGP, OSPF, GRE, MPLS, TLS, IPsec, and MACsec.
- Experience configuring and supporting enterprise network hardware, including Juniper (preferred), Cisco, Palo Alto, Dell, and Arista platforms.
- Experience with network automation and scripting using tools such as Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Experience with network logging and monitoring tools such as ArcSight, Splunk, Syslog, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including IDS/IPS, VPNs, PKI, stateful and stateless firewalls, Application Layer Gateways (ALG), encryption technologies, cryptographic hashing, and NSA CSfC capabilities.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Desired skills- 5 years of experience in Network Communications as a network device SME
- Experience with Juniper EX, QFX, SRX, and MX products
- Network Management: Juniper Apstra, Mist, Ansible (configuration deployment), Syslog, NTPv4, NETConf, SNMPv2/v3
- Virtual Hypervisor & Micro Services: VMWare VCF (understanding of vSwitch and vSAN, VM interfaces), K8 (understanding of Kubernetes and containers' network interfaces and ports)
- Experience with high capacity fiber optics MMF and SM i.e. 10/25/40/100 Gbps data rates
Wireshark/PCAP and/or TCPDUMP/LIBPCAP packet analysis
- Network Monitoring tools. Must have experience with SNMP v2c/v3
- DISA network device STIGS including Network Policy
Ability to work remotelyPart-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

National Pay StatementPay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $104,500 - $184,115. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
