Full Job Description
The ICS (Industrial Control Systems) Network Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and efficient network architectures that support industrial control environments. This role involves documenting and refining network topologies, identifying communication paths between data centers, substations, and field devices such as IEDs, RTUs, and SCADA masters, while recommending improvements for reliability and redundancy. The architect sets up IP addressing schemes, VLANs, firewall rules, and secure remote access solutions in alignment with corporate and regulatory cybersecurity standards, and verifies communications using protocols like DNP3, Modbus, Goose, and IEC 61850. Key responsibilities include managing the transition from serial to IP communications, troubleshooting real-time errors, and collaborating with SCADA engineers to ensure accurate data flow. The role also requires knowledge of compliance standards-preferably NERC CIP-including documentation, network segmentation, access control, and patch management. Additionally, the architect maintains detailed network diagrams, device configurations, and standard operating procedures, contributing to streamlined engineering workflows for substation upgrades and expansions.
