Description

The Network Administrator supports the operation, maintenance, and security of the university's wired and wireless network infrastructure, enterprise voice services, and collaboration platforms. This position monitors network performance, administers network and voice technologies, resolves connectivity issues, supports infrastructure projects, and collaborates with campus stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, and effective technology services across all university locations.

Responsibilities

Network Operations & Administration
  • Monitor, maintain, and support wired, wireless, and voice network infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Perform network configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and device lifecycle activities in accordance with established standards.
  • Maintain network hardware inventories, documentation, and operational records.
  • Collect and analyze performance and utilization data to support capacity planning and operational improvements.

Network Infrastructure & Connectivity
  • Support installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network equipment, wireless services, and network-connected devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity, performance, and service issues; escalate complex problems as appropriate.
  • Assist with network expansion, refresh, and modernization projects.
  • Support physical network infrastructure, including cabling, telecommunications spaces, and equipment deployment.

Voice & Collaboration Services
  • Administer enterprise voice and collaboration platforms, including user provisioning, licensing, device management, and service configuration.
  • Support telephony, conferencing, and collaboration technologies to ensure reliable communication services.
  • Troubleshoot call quality, conferencing, and endpoint issues and coordinate vendor support when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to voice and collaboration services.

Security & Compliance
  • Support network security operations, access management, remote connectivity services, and vulnerability remediation efforts.
  • Assist with security investigations, incident response activities, and compliance initiatives.
  • Apply security best practices and institutional policies to all network administration activities.

Incident Response & Customer Support
  • Provide Tier I and Tier II support for network, voice, and connectivity-related incidents and service requests.
  • Resolve issues within established service expectations and document troubleshooting activities and resolutions.
  • Participate in outage response, maintenance activities, and after-hours support as assigned.

Documentation, Projects & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain network diagrams, inventories, configuration records, and operational procedures.
  • Support infrastructure projects through implementation, testing, documentation, and deployment activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve network performance, operational efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Participate in professional development to expand technical expertise and increase responsibility.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience.
  • Up to two (2) years of experience supporting network infrastructure, telecommunications, or information technology services.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, switching, routing, wireless networking, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, connectivity, and communication service issues.
  • Experience working with network administration tools, management platforms, or enterprise technology environments.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently within established procedures.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between campus locations.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and perform work in technology, telecommunications, and infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and occasional after-hours maintenance activities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, Network+, Security+, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure, wireless networking, telecommunications, or cloud-based collaboration platforms.
  • Experience with Cisco, Meraki, Zoom, Zoom Phone, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or other complex multi-site environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring, automation, scripting, or infrastructure management tools.
  • Experience supporting structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, or conference room technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, identity management, and information technology service management practices.
