The Natural Gas Trading Analyst supports Chevron's natural gas trading and optimization activities by delivering market intelligence, analytical insights, and decision support that drive commercial value. Working closely with traders and commercial teams, the role develops market views, evaluates trading opportunities, and leverages advanced analytics to support physical and financial trading decisions across North American natural gas markets.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor natural gas market fundamentals, pricing, trade flows, infrastructure developments, storage, weather, and competitor activity to generate actionable trading insights.
  • Develop and communicate market views to support physical and financial trading strategies.
  • Collaborate with traders and commercial analysts to identify arbitrage opportunities, optimize portfolios, and support commercial decisions.
  • Build and maintain supply/demand, storage, infrastructure, and forecasting models to evaluate market risks and opportunities.
  • Support natural gas storage optimization through inventory analysis, economics, and market assessments.
  • Conduct ad-hoc market research and analysis in support of the trading desk.
  • Leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and predictive modeling to improve forecasting and trading performance.
  • Partner with digital and data teams to automate processes and enhance analytical capabilities.
  • Build industry relationships and maintain awareness of market, regulatory, and competitive developments.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and reduce manual effort.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of exposure to natural gas trading or other commodity trading
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business or related
  • Experience in North American natural gas markets, including supply/demand fundamentals, storage, pipeline infrastructure, and basis markets.
  • Experience supporting physical and/or financial natural gas trading activities.
  • Familiarity with industry data sources such as ICE, Bloomberg, Platts, EIA, Wood Mackenzie, or Criterion.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced trading environment while managing competing priorities.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to Permian Basin natural gas trading, production dynamics, takeaway capacity, and regional market fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in SQL, Python, and Excel. Additionally, hands-on experience with Databricks for analytics, data engineering, modeling, or automation.
  • Data science experience or building advanced analytical models for trading is a plus.
