Full Job Description
The Narcotic Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing, receiving, and monitoring all controlled drugs. Responsible for reviewing all controlled drug activity to ensure compliance with the federal and state law(s) and monitoring controlled drug discrepancies.

GENERAL DUTIES

Responsible for controlled drug distribution and returns for all Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) within the hospital and the Ambulatory Surgical Center:
  • Maintains and manages two (2) separate Controlled Substance Manager (CSM) inventories within the pharmacy (one for the units within the hospital and one for the Ambulatory Surgical Center). Performs transactions to send new loads, stock outs, manual requests, and ADCs controlled drug refills daily for units within the hospital and the Ambulatory Surgical Center from the designated CSM. Processes controlled drugs returns which include outdated meds, empty return bins, unloaded meds, and meds without removal for both the Hospital and Ambulatory Surgical Center.


Responsibly forreporting all controlled substance discrepancies:
  • Generates and reviews appropriate Controlled Substance reports daily. Researches all controlled substances discrepancies and seeks resolutions. Notifies patient care directors of unresolved controlled substance discrepancies and submits Incident reports of unresolved discrepancies. Notifies pharmacy manager of trends with unresolved discrepancies.


Monitors and manages controlled drug inventory in the Controlled Substance Manager (CSM) and Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC):
  • Performs scheduled inventories of each compartment of the CSM to ensure that narcotics are in date and removes any expired or broken items. Reviews inventory and places a weekly CII and CIII-CV order. Receives, verifies, and adds controlled drugs into CSM. Routinely performs controlled substance audits throughout the hospital and Ambulatory Surgical Center.


Pharmacist Responsibilities:
  • Performs duties of a pharmacist as needed and on scheduled holidays.


Pharmacy Services:
  • Acts with professionalism at all times. Works with a sense of urgency and ownership on all work pertaining to pharmaceutical care while on tour of duty. Maintains good customer service while on their tour of duty which includes but not limited to answering phones within the first 3 rings, answering the door buzzer in a timely manner, and following up with internal customers within a timely manner.


EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required: 2 years of professional experience requiring the use of narcotic substance knowledge. (Touro)
