- Syensqo is seeking an experienced NAM Global Trade professional to support and manage U.S. import operations across our global supply chain. This role will serve as a key subject-matter expert for U.S. customs and import compliance, helping ensure the compliant, efficient, and timely importation of chemicals, raw materials, finished products, samples, equipment, and other materials into the United States.
- The NAM Global Trade will work closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, suppliers, and internal teams including Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, Trade Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Product Stewardship, and Environmental, Health & Safety.
- The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements and practical experience with tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin, broker management, import documentation, and customs entry processes.
We count on you for: U.S. Import Operations
- Manage day-to-day U.S. import activities for chemicals, raw materials, finished goods, samples, equipment, and other Syensqo materials.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate timely and compliant customs clearance.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates, and other import documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Monitor shipments and proactively resolve customs holds, documentation issues, classification questions, and clearance delays.
- Support expedited and time-sensitive shipments when required.
- Maintain accurate import records and documentation in accordance with Syensqo policies and regulatory requirements.
Customs & Trade Compliance
- Serve as a U.S. customs subject-matter expert and provide guidance on CBP requirements and import compliance.
- Ensure U.S. imports comply with applicable CBP regulations and other U.S. government agency requirements.
- Perform and/or validate HTS classifications, customs valuation, country-of-origin determinations, and other import data.
- Review customs broker entries and declarations for accuracy and compliance.
- Identify entry discrepancies and coordinate post-entry corrections and other corrective actions as required.
- Support Free Trade Agreements, special tariff programs, duty exemptions, and other duty optimization opportunities where applicable.
- Support customs inquiries, audits, recordkeeping requests, and internal compliance reviews.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting U.S. imports and communicate relevant changes to internal stakeholders.
Chemical & Regulatory Coordination
- Partner with Syensqo's Product Stewardship, Regulatory Affairs, EHS, and other subject-matter experts to ensure imported chemical products meet applicable requirements.
- Coordinate documentation and data required for imports subject to other government agencies and regulations, including EPA, TSCA, FDA, USDA, DOT, and other applicable authorities.
- Help ensure appropriate chemical and regulatory documentation is available before importation.
- Identify and escalate potential compliance risks or shipment issues to appropriate stakeholders.
Customs Broker & Service Provider Management
- Serve as a primary operational contact for Syensqo's U.S. customs brokers.
- Provide brokers with accurate classification, valuation, origin, and regulatory information.
- Monitor broker entry accuracy, service levels, and performance
- Lead resolution of recurring broker or customs clearance issues.
- Maintain and improve broker instructions, standard operating procedures, and internal controls
- Support periodic broker reviews, audits, and performance metrics.
Process Improvement & Data Analytics
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate U.S. import processes, controls, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain import procedures, work instructions, and internal guidance.
- Analyze import data to identify trends, compliance risks, cost-saving opportunities, and operational issues.
- Support implementation and optimization of ERP, trade compliance, and logistics systems.
- Develop and monitor KPIs related to import volumes, entry accuracy, customs clearance, broker performance, duties, and compliance.
- Participate in cross-functional and global projects involving trade compliance, supply chain, logistics, procurement, and regulatory activities
Training & Internal Support
- Serve as a trusted resource for Syensqo stakeholders regarding U.S. customs and import requirements.
- Provide practical guidance to Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Customer Service, and business teams.
- Develop and deliver training related to U.S. customs regulations, import processes, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other team members as appropriate.
You will bring: - Would be nice to have an U.S. Customs Broker License
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least 5+ years of progressive experience in U.S. imports, customs compliance, international logistics, or trade compliance.
- Experience in the Mexican imports would be a nice to have.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, CBP requirements, and import processes.
- Demonstrated experience with HTS classification, customs valuation, country of origin, customs entries, and import documentation.
- Experience managing relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and international suppliers.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively collaborate across functions and time zones.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard business applications.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment to meet business needs.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to translate complex customs requirements into practical business solutions
Nice to have:
- Experience in the chemical, specialty materials, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or another highly regulated industry.
- Knowledge of chemical import requirements, particularly EPA and TSCA requirements.
- Experience with SAP and/or global trade management systems.
- Experience conducting customs entry audits and developing compliance controls.
- Experience supporting CBP audits, prior disclosures, post-entry corrections, protests, or other customs compliance activities.
- Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements and duty optimization programs.
- Experience working within a complex, multinational organization.

- The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $98,720 to $159,000 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate, we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range.
