The Opportunity:

The Engineering Services department has an opening for a Municipal Engineering Technologist II, to join our team and support municipal infrastructure projects.

The Municipal Engineering Technologist is responsible to review, inspect and accept infrastructure that supports development of residential, commercial, and industrial subdivisions. This position will work with Planning to review and approve development of individual commercial and industrial sites.

Responsibilities include:
• Liaise with external and internal stakeholders
• Assist in the CCC/FAC process to ensure developers fulfill their responsibilities to the City of Airdrie and its residents during development. This includes holding industry accountable to sustainable and environmentally friendly construction practices while giving the City of Airdrie high quality infrastructure
• Assist in maintaining accurate and up to date as-built drawing inventory and ensure that quality information is available to internal and external customers
• Represent Engineering Services in external and internal meetings, as required
• Support the Planning department in review of development permits to ensure they meet the City's engineering standards
• Work with the City's Capital Projects department in delivery of capital infrastructure projects by providing engineering review and subject matter expertise
• Assist in the assessment/delivery of the City's road rehabilitation program and other transportation system improvements
• Review supporting technical documents in relation to development activities such as Master Drainage Plans, Staged Master Drainage Plans, Servicing Studies, Traffic Impact Assessments and Erosion and Sediment Control Plans

You Bring:
• Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation and a current member in good standing with ASET
• A Degree in Civil Engineering with designation as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) and a member in good standing with APEGA. An Engineer in Training (E.I.T) with desired experience would also be considered
• A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent)
• A minimum of four (4) years of work experience directly related to subdivision development either as a municipal representative and/or as the developer's/consulting engineer's field representative
• Knowledgeable in the construction of deep utilities (water, sanitary, and storm) and surface works (asphalt and concrete)
• Previous experience reviewing erosion and sediment control plans, drawings and reports
• Demonstrated ability to use AutoCAD and related software
• Practical knowledge and understanding of Municipal Policies and Procedures as well as an understanding of Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
• Demonstrated sound judgment, flexibility/adaptability, initiative and accountability to establish priorities and meet client expectations/deadlines
• Ability to manage your time to meet deadlines on a variety of projects concurrently
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated tact and diplomacy to establish effective working relationships in order to solve problems and resolve conflict

Additional Information:

The position is full time in office position (37.5 hours per week) and a comprehensive benefits package is included. There is possibility of the term being extended based on operational needs; however, it is not guaranteed.

Please note that, based on experience and qualifications, candidates may be considered at the Municipal Engineering Technologist I level, which offers an hourly rate of $36.62 to $45.78.

Use of a corporate vehicle is required and the successful applicant must have a valid class 5 Alberta Driver's License (or equivalent).
