Full Job Description
MITRE's Finance organization is seeking a Principal Finance Business Partner to join the MITRE Technology & Engineering (MTE) Finance team. As a Finance Business Partner (FBP), you will serve as a primary source of day-to-day financial management and business decision support, playing a key part in the business operations functions that maximize MITRE's value to our government sponsors. The FBP is also a direct manager and developer of people, responsible for positioning the team to positively impact across and within the broader finance communities. The FBP will work in close coordination with and report directly to the Senior Manager and Deputy who serves as the line level-CFO for the MTE GM and CTO.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Engagement
- Fiduciary perspective to prioritize good financial outcomes for the customer and for MITRE as a whole
- If necessary, educate or even push against the customer to drive better financial outcomes, while maintaining a positive relationship with key stakeholders
- Ensure strong operating financial controls and adherence to MITRE Finance policies
- Ensure customer is actively engaged in understanding the current landscape and business context, including trends and emerging issues within the work program
- Primary customer is MTE Leadership including Vice Presidents and Division Directors. Regular engagements with VP expected at least monthly and with Division Directors as needed; engagement with other stakeholders outside of Finance, such as Department Managers, Operations, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, Legal, etc., as needed
- Actively engage in Finance Mission Teams, Managing Center Reviews, and/or cross-Finance reviews, representing the MTE perspective to other stakeholders and bringing back others perspectives to MTE stakeholders
Business Cycle Support
- Continuous Forecasting & Quarterly Target-setting
- Indirect rate management: work with customers to realign funding if business context changes or if indirect spend is out of alignment with plan, creating risk to MITRE's bill rates and/or wrap rate
- Indirect budget allocations based on enterprise and local-level strategic priorities, working in close coordination with operations teams
- Help customers understand the demand signal and context that is being received from the business organizations, and ensure they have realistic and accurate forecasts, particularly regarding hiring and capacity planning
- Oversee the creation of financial models to enable forecasting & target-setting planning, discussions, and preservation for future reference
- Monthly business cycle
- Create and deliver a monthly management report that analyzes and diagnoses business drivers and variances, focusing on recommendations for leadership action
- Lead Vice President customer through the "OODA loop" each month: observing business metrics and demand outlook, orienting based on the current capacity picture, deciding what actions to take by aligning demand, capacity, and indirects, and finally, recommended actions, informed by active plan data
- Proactively engage across Finance, escalating challenges and opportunities that may have broader financial impacts
- While the primary support area is demand-capacity alignment focused on FFRDC Sponsor Delivery, this role will support other finance needs of their Vice President(s) as needed (e.g., business case development, monthly reporting and forecasting for non-FFRDC P&Ls)
Strategic Business & Finance Support
- Lead and/or execute ad hoc or strategic analyses, as requested by stakeholders
- Finance tool, process, and operational improvements
- Represent MTE perspective to the teams that own Finance's tools and systems, working with them to make updates or changes, as necessary
- Support other operational improvements and business transformation as relevant
Team Management
- Manage team of 1-3 analysts, supervising their work and supporting their development
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Ability to simplify complex analysis and concepts through strong narrative development and effective data visualizations
- Intermediate-level Excel skills
- Basic Accounting literacy
- Basic-Intermediate Government Cost Accounting literacy
- Intermediate Finance literacy
- Problem identification and solutioning experience
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint, Tableau, Cognos Analytics
- Experience leading and managing teams
- Relevant academic and/or professional qualification (e.g., MBA)

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$145,200 - $181,500 - $217,800 Annual
