Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a 686 bed, non-profit, acute care, teaching hospital, level 1 trauma center and level 3 perinatal center. Advocate Lutheran General offers innovative services, advanced technology and holds national recognition for achievements in quality patient care.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe MRI environment, including safe operation of the MRI scanner. Safe and knowledgeable operation of ancillary equipment, including but not limited to power injector, coils and ferrous detections systems. Skillful application of technical protocols, patient care, patient and team member safety in the MRI environment. Completes needed workflows in RIS and PACS Systems. Ensures equipment is cleaned upon each use and ready for the next patient. Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Strong working knowledge of anatomy and positioning techniques to address the various presentations and limitations of the patient population. Knowledgeable on appropriate screening of implants to ensure safety in the MRI environment. Produces quality images of identified anatomy as ordered by a physician. Stays informed by participating in department meetings, reviewing communications and organizational practices, events and news.
  • Communicates effectively in a complex environment to ensure the safe delivery of care to team members and radiologists in daily workflows. Identifies and communicates issues related to department quality and/or safety. Effectively communicates with team members in and across units to share information, learning, improve collaboration and care delivery.
  • Adheres to behavioral standards in relation to service and safety in all patient, team member and customer interactions. Follows safety and professional behaviors in day to day workflows. Adheres to HIPAA compliance standards and protects PHI according to organizational standards and regulations.
  • Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism in alignment with organizational and department behavior and safety standards. Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunity for professional growth and development. Maintains appropriate state license and national board certifications. Maintains CPR per site/organizational protocol.
  • Verifies patient identity following approved practices. Verifies exam to be performed using appropriate sources of truth; ensures diagnosis is appropriate for exam to be performed. Prepares patient for exam, screens the patient to ensure safety in the MRI environment, explains the exam to ensure understanding. Documents pertinent patient history to aid the physician in exam evaluation, modifies technical approach appropriate to ensure the safety and comfort of the patient. Adheres to infection prevention practices in all aspects of care, including hand hygiene.
  • Accountable to department results related to quality, safety and service. Is an active participant in helping the organization achieve goals. Performs services recovery and escalates appropriately to assist in resolution. Contributes to ongoing achievements related to productivity, efficiency and quality.


Education/Experience Required:

  • - Graduate of an accredited school of MRI technology -6 months or more experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • -Good communication skills -Basic understanding of RIS operations -Basic computer skills Ability to work in fast paced environment. Adept at learning in a variety of clinical settings. Ability to safely work in Zone 4 of the MRI environment.
  • - ARRT (MR) Registered /ARMRIT registered - CPR Certification


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • -Ability to be flexible in start/end times to meet patient and staffing demands. -May be exposed to radiation, hazardous materials, infectious diseases - Ability to work weekends, holidays and emergency call-back -Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. -Ability to work in the MRI environment LIGHT: Lifting up to 20 - 50 pounds occasionally and/or Up to 10 pounds frequently. MEDIUM: Lifting up to 20 - 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. HEAVY: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
