Summary

The Operations Manager works in all operational business aspects (production and efficiency) of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). In addition, the Operations Manager will ensure the highest standards of environmental health and safety and operational excellence by effectively managing the day-to-day operation and continuous improvement of assigned MRF.

Job Description
  • Responsible for successful operation of transfer stations, ensuring sites are open and running safely and efficiently.
  • Monitors site operations, safety and personnel.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures all sites comply with all company, county and regulatory standards.
  • Meets and works with all enforcement agencies (OSHA, CAL EPA, AQMD, etc).
  • Responsible for training and developing of personnel.
  • Ensures equipment is maintained, repaired timely and efficiently.
  • Monitors tonnage inbound and tonnage outbound to ensure all sites are in compliance.
  • Guide, coach, supervise and motivate employees; Communicate effectively and properly with subordinates, peers and superiors; Use Change Management techniques to overcome resistance to change. Able to replace/backfill managers on his/her team as needed.
  • Monitor that the best material is being selected for processing.
  • Develop and implement plans regarding capacity, materials, labor requirements and cost reduction.
  • Play a significant role in long term planning including an initiative geared toward operations.
  • Responsible for standardizing operations processes and preparing for/implementing processes and policies, working in close relationship with internal leaders within the company.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 5 to 7 year's management experience.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, Dust Control, and other related state and federal regulations.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to coach and develop subordinates.
  • Able to use MS Office, Outlook, HMI, strong Computer skills and knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 5 years' experience in a waste-recycling industry or industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Class A / B License preferred.
  • Solid Waste Association of North America certification preferred.
  • Bilingual would be highly preferred.


Salary: $102,427 - $170,592/year

Schedule: Monday - Friday and some weekends.
