About the roleAs Vesta's first compliance hire, you'll own how we think about mortgage regulation and help turn that thinking into a product that helps our lenders meet their compliance obligations. As we interpret regulations, and as customers bring us hard questions and competing points of view, you'll be the person who establishes Vesta's perspective and carries it across the company, product, and out to our customers and prospective customers.
You'll sit at the intersection of regulation, product, and customers. In this role, you can expect to:
- own Vesta's internal interpretation of mortgage origination regulations, becoming the authoritative voice the whole company relies on when it comes to regulatory and investor compliance.
- partner closely with our product team, advising on how the product should be built so our lenders can seamlessly originate loans in a manner compliant with applicable regulations.
- help ensure our AI products meet the evolving regulatory and investor requirements.
- support our customer-facing teams, equipping sales, implementations, and customer success with Vesta's point of view on, and product functionality relating to, regulatory and investor guideline compliance.
- stay ahead of the regulatory landscape - GSE and agency guidelines, TRID, ECOA and fair lending, RESPA, GLBA, state-level requirements, and the evolving rules around AI in lending - and translate what changes into action for our product and our customers.
Who you are- You have 5+ years in mortgage compliance, ideally including time owning or helping lead the compliance function at a mortgage lender. Experience in a regulatory or supervisory role is a nice-to-have, but hands-on compliance experience at a lender is a must.
- You know mortgage origination regulation deeply and practically. You know not just what the rules say, but how they actually play out across the loan lifecycle.
- You have a spine. You're comfortable forming a clear point of view, defending it with credibility internally and in front of customers.
- You're excited to help shape a product, not just police it. You like the idea that your interpretation of a regulation becomes the way software works for lenders across the country.
- You're curious about AI and energized, not spooked, by the question of how to build and deploy it responsibly in a highly regulated industry.
- You're a self-starter and team player who's comfortable being the only person in your function, flexing across product, customer, and regulatory problems while executing with precision.
- You're looking to join an early-stage team to build something BIG, something industry-changing, and you're excited about being part of that quickly-moving, fast-growing journey.
