Full Job Description
Modeling and Simulation Engineer, Mid-Level

Overview

This role requires developing and maintaining a high-fidelity 6DOF simulation of a weapon system with seeker and the digital environment used to characterize end-to-end system performance, supporting flight software integration, and performing trade studies that inform design and requirements decisions.

Responsibilities

Model and analyze RF seeker performance, including sensor control, tracking, and target engagement behavior.

Evaluate overall missile performance through airframe, propulsion, aerodynamics, and actuator dynamics modeling.

Build post-processing and analysis tooling in MATLAB, Python, and related environments.

Develop, extend, and maintain a closed loop 6DOF flight simulation written in C/C++.

Develop and integrate subsystem models spanning flight dynamics, control actuation system, motor, gimbal, seeker, guidance, navigation, and control.

Integrate and test flight software in the loop, supporting software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) configurations.

Plan and execute trade studies, sensitivity sweeps, and Monte Carlo analyses to assess performance drivers and margins.

Generate clear and concise technical results, briefings, and documentation for internal teams and external customers.

Collaborate with GNC (guidance and control), seeker, propulsion, and software engineers to validate models against test and flight data.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements and Desired Skillsets

Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering field from an accredited institution.

Demonstrated experience developing 6DOF or equivalent flight dynamics simulations.

Proficiency in C/C++ for simulation development.

Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python for analysis, visualization, and automation.

Working knowledge of GNC fundamentals: rigid body dynamics, coordinate frames, equations of motion, and control loops.

Experience modeling RF seekers, radar, or other sensor performance.

Experience with gimbaled seeker kinematics, line-of-sight rates, and pointing and tracking algorithms.

Familiarity with missile or tactical weapon system design and requirements flow down.

Experience with SIL and HIL integration, real-time execution, and timing constraints.

Experience with Monte Carlo methods, statistical performance assessment, and sensitivity analysis.

Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).

U.S. Citizenship with Active Secret Security clearance and ability to maintain the designated security clearance level is required.

Physical Description

Employees in these positions will function in a general office/cubicle setting environment, and laboratory/testing setting using standard office equipment and various electronic testing equipment, including a computer, telephone, printers, video equipment, computer software, and testing equipment. Will interact in a general office setting environment with various personnel; participate in meetings and contribute to team success; deliver timely results and produce reports; receive and communicate information; may include telework. May function in a specialized laboratory/testing environment using electronic testing equipment, computer software, and complex systems. May move and test equipment of various weights.
