An automated guided vehicle (AGV) makes lights-out manufacturing and distribution possible by moving product within a process without human involvement. This requires excellence in mechatronic design, as well as, cutting edge software.
The Mobile Robots Engineer SME reports to the VP Mobile Robots and works as a part of the Vehicle Mechatronics group within Robotic Systems Development - Mobile Robots in NA and EMEA. Entrepreneurial thinking, ability to produce innovative designs quickly, and sound engineering skills are critical for a successful candidate.
The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $136,800-$171,000 at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
Tasks and Qualifications:What You Will do in This Role: Core Responsibilities:- Develop innovative designs for an AGV vehicle, electro-mechanical hardware included
- From initial concept-to-production release, ensuring Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) requirements are satisfied
- Strong proven capability in DFMEA and PFMEA
- Within the project timeline and within the allocated budgetary target
- Vehicle is to meet all validation and regulatory targets
- Realization and working on design concepts
- Strong Modulariuty thinking ad approach across products and different global requirements
- All engineering documentation to be released within the companies' database for production release
- Interface with all other departments - Software, Purchasing, Quality, Production and Customer Service
Travel: - This role is based in the Grand Rapids office with the expectation to travel as needed, up to 50% supporting EMEA and APAC development entities.
What We're Looking For:Education Required:- Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Prefer Master of Science Degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Experience/Skill Preferred:- Total of 15 plus years of related experience - Industrial equipment.
- Integrated working experience with CAD; Unigraphics (NX) and / or SolidWorks.
- Working CAD experience: surfaces, solids, assemblies, and drawings.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) experience along with a vast knowledge of manufacturing processes to obtain the most cost-effective streamlined design/s.
- Working experience / knowledge: ASME Y14.5;
- Drawing standards - assemblies and components
- GD&T - Datum schemes, tolerances and tolerance stack-ups
- Integrated working experience with CAE; structural and fluids/thermo - Unigraphics NX and / or Ansys
- Develop, mature and release engineering documentation
- Specifications and drawings - from prototype to production
- Populate the Companies' database with the Engineering documentation.
- Structured CAD data and necessary BOMs
- Create and release Test Verification Plan
- Follow test phase results - change designs accordingly
- Create and manage mechanical Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Adhere to Companies' Project Timeline - Submit / provide necessary documentation
- During production phase - manage changes (ECN)
- Knowledge of ANSI, UL, ISO, and CE standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experienced with MS programs, Word, Excel
