Role Overview

Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Open Pit Mine Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient production. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader with expertise in open pit mine operations and a solid focus on safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead every shift with health and safety as the first priority. Set clear expectations through pre-shift meetings, field presence, hazard identification and risk controls; verify that work is performed in accordance with site procedures, and stop or correct unsafe work immediately.
  • Confirm that operators are trained, fit for duty and assigned to equipment and tasks for which they are authorized. Coach safe behaviours, follow up on reported hazards and incidents, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Plan and coordinate people, equipment and work areas with Dispatch and the other mine teams to execute the shift safely while meeting tonnes, grade, stripping, quality and environmental requirements.
  • Ensure the shift starts on time and is ready to work: review the plan, equipment availability, work area conditions and handover; confirm assignments and track the time of the first load against the planned start.
  • Monitor production throughout the shift, including first load, interruptions, delays and the time of the last load or stop of loading. Identify causes of lost time, act on issues within the supervisor's control, and record accurate start, stop and delay information for handover and reporting.
  • Work with Dispatch to schedule and manage staggered breaks, operator relief and equipment coverage. Ensure employees receive their required breaks while maintaining safe traffic flow and continuity of operations.
  • Supervise loading, hauling, ROM and dump activities, road maintenance and other assigned open pit work. Verify that changing ground, weather, traffic and equipment conditions are assessed and controlled.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, technical services, training and other departments to remove constraints, maintain equipment readiness and support current and upcoming training requirements.
  • Provide clear direction, coaching and performance feedback to employees; promote accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Complete accurate shift reports, safety records and production KPIs, including key operating times and significant delays. Provide a thorough cross-shift handover of hazards, equipment status, production progress and outstanding priorities.
