Full Job Description
Job Title: Mill Maintenance Superintendent

Reporting directly to the Mill Manager, the Mill Maintenance Superintendent will provide strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and execution of maintenance systems supporting a world-class processing operation. As a key member of the Mill leadership team, this role will be instrumental in establishing maintenance excellence during the transition from project construction and commissioning into operations.

The successful candidate will lead the development of a high-performing maintenance organization comprised of supervisors, planners, schedulers, and skilled trades professionals. They will be responsible for building robust maintenance programs, driving equipment reliability, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Maintenance Strategy & Reliability
• Develop and implement the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) structure.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies, programs, and procedures to optimize the reliability, availability, and lifespan of fixed plant equipment and infrastructure, including crushers, conveyors, mills, and processing facilities.
• Prepare logistically and materially for the first planned shutdown.
• Identify material risks and implement appropriate controls to safeguard the site from major safety and downtime events.
• Plan and prioritize maintenance activities, shutdowns, and overhauls in alignment with production schedules, maintenance budgets, and equipment criticality assessments to minimize downtime and production losses.

Leadership & Team Development
• Build and lead a high-performing maintenance team consisting of supervisors, skilled tradespeople, planners, and schedulers.
• Develop and mentor employees throughout the department by providing coaching, meaningful feedback, succession planning, and opportunities for growth.
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, reliability, and overall workforce performance.

Operational Excellence & Collaboration
• Build strong partnerships with Mill Operations, Metallurgy, and Mill Maintenance to optimize overall site performance.
• Support the successful start-up and ongoing operation of the mill through effective maintenance planning and execution.
• Participate in annual business planning, budgeting, and forecasting while maintaining accountability for operational performance against plan.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

The Ideal Candidate

Education/Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree, trade qualification, or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Millwright, or a related discipline.

Experience / Skills
• Minimum 10 years of progressive maintenance leadership experience within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations.
• Experience supporting plant commissioning or start-up activities is considered a strong asset.
• Demonstrated success developing and implementing maintenance strategies, reliability programs, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
• Strong knowledge of fixed plant equipment, including crushing, grinding, conveying, pumping, and processing systems.
• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), maintenance planning software, and reliability-centred maintenance practices.
• Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance principles.
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing maintenance teams.
• Excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CAD $170,000- 195,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
