Position Overview
SMX is seeking an experienced
SQL Server DBA to support enterprise database operations for the U.S. Government Publishing Office. The role focuses on hands-on SQL Server administration, production support, high availability, backup/recovery, performance tuning, security, patching, and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- 4+ years of database administration experience
- Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration
- Strong SQL and T-SQL skills
- SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching
- Backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery
- High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and SQL Server clustering
- Performance tuning, query optimization, and execution-plan analysis
- Database security, users, roles, permissions, and auditing
- Production monitoring and incident troubleshooting
- Administrative scripting and automation
- Experience supporting development, test, staging, and production environments
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain SQL Server environments; monitor availability and performance; manage backups and recovery; support clustering and DR; perform patching and upgrades; troubleshoot production incidents; manage database security; develop T-SQL/PowerShell automation; and maintain technical documentation and ServiceNow records.
Experience with
PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, Microsoft Access, or cloud databases is a plus. Relevant Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, or database certifications are strongly preferred.
